Built by two local brothers from the village of Kinnakeet (now known as Avon Village), the pier took two years to construct. It opened its doors in the summer of 1963 and has been in continuous operation since then. The pier stretches 665 feet out into the Atlantic Ocean. Its visible crooked bends are testament to the forces of Mother Nature over the many years. Today the Avon Fishing Pier is the only pier remaining in operation in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The pier is world famous for its many records, especially with giant Red Drum that frequently school just off the end of the pier. Today the pier is in even better hands with ownership belonging to Koru Village Resort and Spa. Whether you are a seasoned angler or just taking the family fishing for the day, the Avon Fishing Pier is the perfect spot. Come and start a tradition of your very own today.

My 9 year old and I spent a morning fishing from the Avon Pier during our last Outer Banks trip. We didn't catch any big fish, but we caught a nice variety including bluefish, croakers, sea mullet and my son also cause a nice spadefish. Great memories were made and my son likes telling everyone that he caught more fish... More

This pier is an adventure all unto its own but in a good way. It's like walking a rickety bridge into the ocean. It felt safe but, you can tell there have been lots of repairs overtime and the twist and curves give it character. Characters... there were a few fishermen on the pier that are clearly regulars. They were... More

Cost a dollar per person to walk out on. It is clean and not a lot of rowdy people. There is a little shop before you go on pier

Walked out into the pier after our dinner. Fun watching all the fisherman. Great view. But needs major repair from all the storms. Hard to walk on.

We are very glad you enjoyed your time on the Avon Pier. We make thousands of dollars in repairs to our pier every year as Cape Hatteras undergoes heavy storms and currents constantly. Our pier has been standing since 1963 and is the last standing pier on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The pier is part of the national park... More

We stopped to just take a quick look from the pier, but changed our mind and just had coffee. I was surprised to see a charge for just walking on the pier. It was small, but seeing we had an ocean front room it wasn't really worth it. It looked like the piers in the area all were accessible by... More

It was a good morning on the pier even though we didn't catch a thing. The staff was nice and it was cheaper than other piers.

We did a brief stop at the pier and enjoyed the views of both the oceanfront homes, as well as the ocean. We looked on as the locals and travelers were trying their hand at fishing.

I haven't been on the Avon Pier in about 30 years. It looks just like I remembered it! It's wavy and crooked, but it does seem sturdy. I know it's had a little work done over the years. It is a pretty spot to look out onto the ocean or even the beach. You really can't find another vantage point... More

I've never seen a pier that looked like this one. It's wavy (not flat), and could really use some repair.

I first walked a pier at least 15 years ago. It was $1 then, and it's $1 now. (Fishing, that's another matter.) The Avon pier has been recently re-boarded and, even though it's "wavy," is sturdy and well maintained. The fisher-folk are basically friendly (just be aware, don't get in the way, and don't be a nuisance). The views from... More
