Built by two local brothers from the village of Kinnakeet (now known as Avon Village), the pier took two years to construct. It opened its doors in the summer of 1963 and has been in continuous operation since then. The pier stretches 665 feet out into the Atlantic Ocean. Its visible crooked bends are testament to the forces of Mother Nature over the many years. Today the Avon Fishing Pier is the only pier remaining in operation in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The pier is world famous for its many records, especially with giant Red Drum that frequently school just off the end of the pier. Today the pier is in even better hands with ownership belonging to Koru Village Resort and Spa. Whether you are a seasoned angler or just taking the family fishing for the day, the Avon Fishing Pier is the perfect spot. Come and start a tradition of your very own today.

Fishing

Have fished here several times and always have a blast, great place to fish if you do not have a vehicle to drive on the beach or they have the ramps closed.

They are doing a great job keeping this pier a viable part of the community for visitors and fishing. You can tell by the condition of the pier, Mother Nature has her way with this pier by how curvy it it. We spent quite a bit of time enjoying the ocean on the pier and talking with the fishermen. It... More

There are plenty of people fishing and some really great catches have been made but if you want to go just to walk out on the pier and watch the waves and see the beach from a different perspective then try and go when the waves are high. It is a totally different feeling and sight to see the waves... More

Just go and hang out in the sun, or rain, or wind, or cold, and soak up what it's like to be a seagull, out there, in Nature, above the sea. Fun.

Avon pier is quite an experience to walk out onto, especially when the waves are a little rough ! It's an amazing feeling to be so far out above the ocean. We have fished there before ,as well as just visited to see what others are catching. It's worth $1.00 just to sightsee . We went a few weeks ago... More

The sky was quite grey when we arrived at the Avon Pier. However the heavy rain had stopped, but could eventually come back. The price to enter the pier was 5$. This pier as well was not straight, as we can see on the included pictures. Still it added some character facing the Atlantic Ocean. My favorite part was to... More

Thank you for taking your time to review the Avon Pier and learn about its long history. It has seen a lot of visitors and storms in its day : ). The sightseeing fee to walk on the pier is only $1, so i'm not sure where you got the $5 from? Thank you for posting photos and we look... More

We visited on a very windy day after days of storms and rain and it was awesome to be way out there on the pier. Cost is $1.00.

Good pier for fishing and bird watching. Looking out toward the ocean you can see twist's and curve which I'm told is from a hurricane, but it's still very sturdy and safe. There is a small snack / bait shop at the beginning of the pier with cold drinks but not much tackle.

We just returned from a week @ Avon, NC. The pier was visible from our house. It was beautiful to see the lights of the pier @ night. The pier has clearly been standing for a long time, as evidenced by the many repairs which have been done to it. When you walk out to the edge of the pier... More

The Avon fishing pier is a great bargain in the Outer Banks. They offer sightseers a great view of the surrounding beaches and fishermen an opportunity to catch some grunts or Spanish Mackerel. Entry fee is $1 and fishing poles with full tackle can be rented for only $10 a day. Bonus tip: grab an ice cold PBR when you... More
