Built by two local brothers from the village of Kinnakeet (now known as Avon Village), the pier took two years to construct. It opened its doors in the summer of 1963 and has been in continuous operation since then. The pier stretches 665 feet out into the Atlantic Ocean. Its visible crooked bends are testament to the forces of Mother Nature over the many years. Today the Avon Fishing Pier is the only pier remaining in operation in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The pier is world famous for its many records, especially with giant Red Drum that frequently school just off the end of the pier. Today the pier is in even better hands with ownership belonging to Koru Village Resort and Spa. Whether you are a seasoned angler or just taking the family fishing for the day, the Avon Fishing Pier is the perfect spot. Come and start a tradition of your very own today.

Easy access from Hwy 12, you can walk the pier for a $1.00, or fish for $9.00, they have tackle, bait, rods and reels to rent. It is a little breezy on the pier, so dress to cut the wind. Saw several fishermen catch fish the day we visited. The staff is extremely friendly and positive and will help you... More

Avon is one of the greatest areas on the outer banks, and I do enjoy fishing off the pier, but I cannot lie, that pier scares me to death. It is very wavy. Looks like it could fall down with the next storm. I know they have made it safe, but it still frightening to me.

This was my husbands first visit to the Outer Banks and first time pier fishing. Nice pier with extensive remodeling. Clean restrooms and well stocked store with rods, bait, snacks and drinks, etc. Friendly staff.

We traveled there last week to fish. The people in the shop on the pier were friendly and accommodating. Couldn't ask for a better mini vacation to fish.

The staff at the pier was very friendly and informative. The pier is well maintained and you can tell where new boards are placed. It's definitely worth experiencing. $10 gets you of the pier fishing and you can come and go that day which was nice.

We went to fish on the pier for a half of day! They had fishing poles to fish with, bait to buy, etc....... If you've never fished before, I'm sure they would give you pointers if you ask. We talked with several people and they were more than willing to offer their advice. It was fun and something we had... More

Nice to see the pier is still operational after all these years. It is the last usable pier on the outerbanks as far as I'm aware. Worth the $1 for the view

We headed out early AM and fished on the pier for about 3 hours and we didn't even get a bite. No one on he pier had caught anything while we were out there. We had read the posts from the pier that week expressing good fishing conditions and lots of fish being caught. However, when we talked to people... More
