Built by two local brothers from the village of Kinnakeet (now known as Avon Village), the pier took two years to construct. It opened its doors in the summer of 1963 and has been in continuous operation since then. The pier stretches 665 feet out into the Atlantic Ocean. Its visible crooked bends are testament to the forces of Mother Nature over the many years. Today the Avon Fishing Pier is the only pier remaining in operation in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The pier is world famous for its many records, especially with giant Red Drum that frequently school just off the end of the pier. Today the pier is in even better hands with ownership belonging to Koru Village Resort and Spa. Whether you are a seasoned angler or just taking the family fishing for the day, the Avon Fishing Pier is the perfect spot. Come and start a tradition of your very own today.

Went fishing on the pier once during the day and once at night with the family. Everyone was super nice on the pier - anxious to talk about their latest catches and offer advice as to bait, etc. The pier has food and drinks and a bathroom. The did a good job fixing it up over the spring - looks... More

While I had never heard of the "World Famous Avon Pier", my wife explained to me that it has been captured in photos and seen far and wide. After being there and walking out on to it, I've got to give it its due. The pier stretches 665 feet into the Atlantic Ocean. It's crooked and it creeks when it... More

Thank you so much for your amazing review of the Avon Pier. Its not easy to keep a pier like this going with the raging winds and waters that it has seen over the years. However, our staff and owner puts a lot of work into keeping as strong as authentic as possible, and we love when our guests can... More

The charge to get in was really cheap and the pier jets out far into the ocean. More than enough space to go fishing and a great place to be by for 4th of July fireworks!

Not anything to even mention other than dirty and unimpressive. And certainly would not pay $1 to walk out on rickety pier. Recommend a pass on this one unless you want to fish or need to use one of the bathrooms...

I've been to several piers that stretch into the ocean to either fish or, if available, dine at a restaurant on the pier. This one had an amazing views and I did enjoy watching people catch blue crabs. The $1 fee did not bother me at all, but the pier itself is wavy and unstable. Easy trip hazards so watch... More

The strong winds and seas off of Cape Hatteras has taken a toll on the Avon Pier which is why we spend thousands of dollars and months of work each year to keep it up to national standards. We also purchased the pier 3 years ago and have/ will continue to put work into each year to make it strong... More

Our family stopped to walk out onto the pier after dinner one windy evening. There was plenty of parking outside of the small beach shop. The shop offered simple snacks, coffee, pre-packaged ice-cream and fishing supplies. We paid $1 each to head out on the pier. The views were lovely - even with the wind - and would be a... More

No visit to Hatteras Island is complete without a visit to Avon pier. The admission price is only $1.00 or free is you are staying at a house from Outer Beaches Realty. The price is good for all day. There is plenty of parking and a small market inside with a cafe that offers coffee, snacks, and lunch perfect for... More
