This fort may be on the compact size, but make no mistake every part of the fort was designs to keep the bad guys out. The construction of the inside wall easily be compared to midevil castle towers faceing a mote, adding an additional ring of defense to the fort. Overall A+

Fort Macon is a beautifully preserved historic site that brings the many lives of this fort to life. Be sure to explore all parts of the fort for many surprises. If you have children with sensitive ears, avoid Wednesdays when they do the cannon demo. The lands around the fort are beautiful and worth exploring. Swimming us not allowed at... More

We visited this landmark to take a break from the beach. The state park and Museum was very interesting. We had fun learning about the Fort's history in the museum. We also had fun walking around the actual Fort as well.

This was nice and informative. Spectacular views. The beach was clean and the water was clear. There is not swimming allowed, but it is beautiful to see.

It was my first time visiting Ft. Macon. I was there with my brother and nephew on 8/17/16. The visitor's center is very well thought out. It's very clean and well organized to get the whole story of the fort. We were fortunate to be there on a Wednesday near 4:00 pm, because they have the canon firing exhibition. It's... More

Very nice place to visit. They fire the cannons every Wednesday at 4:00 through the summer. Facility is very clean and there is also access to the beach from the parking lot.

Well preserved historical site. Grounds were breathtaking. Views were spectacular. No supervision of artifacts and we saw some very disrespectful children. This was especially worrisome with the severe drop off. The gift shop staff was semi rude. Overall a good historical site.

I love history and couldn't resist skipping over Fort Macon. It's only 15 minutes from Emerald Isle, located on the eastern most point. This park has a variety of natural trails, beaches and other activities you can see and explore. We entered the visitors center (it's air conditioned) and saw the sign for the tour. Tours are not required, but... More

Went on Wednesday to watch a demonstration and cannon firing by the Coast Guard. Fun to see the items on display, the rooms that housed the military and the museum.
