Very nice beach and not overly crowded. Very impressive, clean bath house with showers and a small concession stand. The walk to the beach is not too bad, has a wooden walkway with steps and ramp. Parking is free and very close! I was a little nervous about the waves at this beach for my son but felt reassured after... More

Atmospheric spot with civil war memories strong. Well located for Morehead City and to get fresh breezes.

We enjoyed our outing to fort Macon. We were fortunate to catch the 4pm canon blast. It was very loud and awesome! Great display of artifacts and history of Fort. My son, who is a military buff, loved it!! There are surrounding beaches that are really nice as well. Great place for an afternoon beach outing or historical site seeing.

I would highly reccomend this as a must hit stop if you are in the area. Not only is it FREE, its a great history lesson. Both my kids have enjoyed it year after year when we come to vacation. Wednesdays at 4pm is the cannon fire...AWESOME FUN!

Fort Macon was kind of the throw-in place to visit before we headed home on the last day of vacation. There's currently a Lego model of it in my home. The kids loved it. The museum exhibits are superior to Fort McHenry in Baltimore (which is a National Park Service facility), and this is free! We took a guided tour,... More

To fully appreciate the fort, I would recommend watching the short historical film they show inside the entrance. The fort is full of artifacts and in-depth descriptions. It's free and was not crowded when we visited.

Went on Wednesday afternoon at 4 for the cannon shoot done weekly. Folks there told about history, how cannon is loaded and how far it will shoot. Was very hot so dress appropriately. Museum was a welcome stop after the show.

Hubby & I came here for just a walk on the sand but there were lots of fishermen. We saw crabs scurrying everywhere in the shallow clear water....big crabs. Also saw several small sand sharks up close. Great little spot to see nature.
