Our family visited Fort Macon State Park and were very impressed with how well kept this piece of history was kept. The volunteers where full of information and very friendly. The film was well made and went through the history of the fort. A must see while in the area.

Deep roots of history here. You almost go back to the day and have to wonder how they literally survived!

I recommend visiting ft Macon on your trip to NC beaches. Great combination of restored and original. Many story boards and. Ideas depicting life in the fort. All for free.

The displays and the history are very well documented for the casual visitor to take their time and absorb. There is a video with the history in the more modern building with quite a bit of seating which runs continuously. There are friendly staff to answer questions, clean bathrooms, a lovely gift shop and nature trails along the ocean as... More

We walked all over, looked at everything and listened to the tour guides explanations of the past. Nice place to take a ride to.

Far from the crowds and close to nature. Also handicapped, wheelchair acessible for the beautiful views.

We happened to be at Fort Macon during the 4th of July 2016, and just in time for the firing of the canons. You can wander all over the old fort. Some of my favorite photos of the kids are from here. Fun to hear the echoes in the old rooms. Great family adventure!

We came here on New Year Eve to listen to some great Blue Grass music. At 7PM the cannons was shot off to start the new year. There was about three to four hundred people there and they had officer's in the parking lot to help with the traffic.

We spent almost a whole day exploring the fort. Very educational and interesting. The grounds are well designed. There is a museum near the fort and also a beautiful beach. Definitely visit if you are in the area.
