Here is a chance to tour and inspect a real treasure. The history of this fort is just phenomenal. This is state park on the beach. Parking and admission is free. And the tours are self guided. Plenty of displays. Clean restrooms and shop are available.

The museum part is interesting and well done. The fort itself is self guided with exhibits located in various rooms within the fort. Hiking trails available. Bring stroller for small children. Adequate restrooms but tissue gets scarce at the end of the day 😟

Take away a feeling of the way it used to be when this place was built. Historical, picturesque, hard to believe how they lived in this place long ago. Good place to take the kids.

History of not only our state but the early years of our struggling nation. Great building to see how our ancestors figured things out without being able to watch a video on YouTube.

This is one of our favorite areas to visit on Atlantic Beach. Great way to visualize history. All the displays are very well done. Visited there last Wednesday and saw Ranger Paul do an outstanding presentation on the history of the 1864 Springfield musket. He went into great detail on the loading and firing of this piece. Hearing the musket... More

Almost full access to the fort, exhibits, prerecorded information to explain each display and a large visitor's center which offers videos and the history of the fort. There is also a large, paved parking lot, beach acces and covered picnic area. Great for a family outing, picnic and day at the beach.

We visited while staying at Atlantic Beach a couple of years ago. We visited during a Civil War reenactment which was very interesting. A great historical landmark to be enjoyed by young and old.

Visited the Fort and the Park. They have a very well done movie on the history of the fort, some interesting exhibits and the fort is in good shape. Great activity to do with family on warm day, with a picnic. Wonderful views of Beaufort entrance from Atlantic from top of fort.

My 15 year old son and I visited the Fort when our beach day was rained on. We didn't mind a little sprinkling at this fort though, because there are tons of rooms to duck into to learn history... Some rooms have old artifacts like money, weapons, and even wax figures wearing uniforms. You are free to climb to the... More
