Great place to visit. Both our 17 yr old boy & 12 yr old girl liked it. On certain days you can watch them fire a cannon. Free to visit. Wear tennis shoes as there are several steps & some of the areas may have puddles of water from rainfall.

I was very happy to find a place in the area where you didn't have to pay to park and could go on the beach. The facilities were very nice. The beach wasn't too crowded. Had a lovely day on the water.

It was nearly 100 degrees and I really didn't want to walk around outside, but after seeing the museum we had to see the fort. The fort has a long history from fighting of the British to fighting off the Germans. There are parts of the fort from each era. My wife was intrigued by the firing of the cannons... More

Fort Macon is by far the most amazing park and historic site I've been to in a long time. We were the first ones there on the day we went and enjoyed it so much. We will definitely be back.

Go to the visitors center first, you'll be armed with information. As you walk in, start with the tan doors and each has a fully contained air conditioned room - each showing various time periods and daily life at Fort Macon. Climb the steep steps for a great view of the Atlantic and you can almost see the ships of... More

We enjoyed our visit to the Fort. I suggest doing the guided tour- very educational. They also have a four pm canon blast on Weds- very cool.

Historic site. A lot of interesting rooms to explore and imagine the life back in time. Watch the mosquete firing and relax with the views. Nice place for a walk.

It was a beautiful fort and very formative of the history of the fort. The staff was friendly and formative too. It was well maintained and clean. It is in a great location.

I'm not really a fort visiting type of person but, even if you're not that interested in the history of it, the fort has a great view of the water/beach. It does have some interesting exhibits and (I can't believe I'm typing these words) - the best day to visit is probably when they are doing some cannon firing. We... More

We were in Atlantic Beach for a SCUBA trip and stumbled upon this historic site. What a great place to spend a morning. My son and I went from one end of the fort to the other, very imformative education building is there as well. When you're done there you can walk across the street and visit the beach too.
