Very nice place to visit. They fire the cannons every Wednesday at 4:00 through the summer. Facility is very clean and there is also access to the beach from the parking lot.

We decided to tour this fort during our stay at Atlantic Beach. Overall it was an awesome experience. The fort is set up to allow visitors an opportunity to see what it was like during the various periods the fort was operational. We did a self guided tour and took our time exploring each room and the surrounding grounds. There... More

This is free and a must see...! Just a few miles up from the four corners...Easy in and out...We don't have a clue as to what it was like and you get some idea by visiting the rooms in the lower level as well as the upper level, upper level watch where you're walking, it's a long way down...

So many years this fort was used by our military. So many men called it home. It is so well preserved and is truly a must see while near Beaufort.

Stopped here at the recommendation from the visitor center at the other end of the Outer Banks. Could have spent the whole day here absorbing the history.

Awesome revolutionary, civil war fort. Great exhibits and short classes. Kids had a blast and some parts were a/c🙌

We just re-visited this August 2016, it's been quite a few years since we've come, and my, have they made some improvements! They have added a whole front building with a gift shop and indoor walkthrough/museum area. The old architecture and history here never ceases to amaze me. Its really nice how you can walk through, or take a guided... More

Indeed, our family of four are history buffs (mom dad 2 boys 11/8), but this museum exceded our expectations. First of all, it is free. Secondly, the location is stunning. Thirdly, museum done right. From the indoor exhibits to the freedom to walk around the fort at your leisure and learn about all of the wonderful and interesting history, it... More

If you enjoy seeing historic sites as I do and you're in the area you should definitely check out Fort Macon. And stop by the visitor's center to get some interesting information about the fort and grab some books from the gift shop.
