Great beach flat sand into the sea very safe for kids. First couple of hours was blissful...... then the thumping music started so loud we had to leave. What a pity, local cafe owner was equally unimpressed and told us this is a daily event. The irony was that the sunbeds nearest the music were empty, does the DJ not understand that he is putting people off rather than attracting them!!

If you like hiking, I recommend you to go for a coastal walk. The walk to Adabogazi starts from end of Bitez marina. You’ll see a pathway. Just follow the coastline and you won't get lost. It’s a beautiful walkway. You’ll see stunning views, small secluded bays on the way. They are sandy and crystal clear. If you continue walking, you’ll walk towards a hill and see beautiful landscape and a white domed water cistern. It takes about 1 hour to walk there from Bitez marina. Make sure you wear appropriate shoes, and take drinking water and swimsuit with you. It’s a bit rough path, not really suitable for anyone with walking difficulties.

There's more to Bitez than just the Beach. So if you fancy wandering off the beaten track there's a couple of good options. Between Bitez Beach and Bitez village is a series of narrow lanes and (during the summer) dry river beds, which weave between the citrus and olive groves. It's a gentle stroll from the Beach to the Village, and these lanes are cooler and offer more shade than the beach. Bitez Village has a different vibe than the beach, and there are a good selection of local shops and restaurants, which cater more to locals than tourists. There's a really great little bakery in the village, so it's a good destination for your village jaunt.

Another area to go walking to get away from the crowds is to head towards the boat harbour and jetty (if you're on the beach, looking out to sea - walk around the bay to your left), and then carry on walking around the coastline away from the boat jetty. This walking trail hugs the coastline and takes you past numerous little bays which are perfect for a quick dip. After about 15-20 minutes you'll reach a path that leads over the hill and down into the area near Aquarium Bay. This area is only accessible by boat and on foot. The water is glorious, and it's away from crowds. (Make sure you take water and snacks with you - there's no services or businesses here.)

When you head back to the beach - you should stop off at the Iskele Cafe near the boat harbour. This local municipal cafe has non-tourist prices, and serves a delicious cup of coffee! If you're going on a boat trip from Bitez, this is where you'll catch your boat, so this cafe is a good place for eating breakfast before you get on your boat.

It you feel like getting a bit more active - there's 4 water sports area's dotted around the beach - including pedalos and windsurfing. There's also a bike rental company on the beach too.

We've been going to Bitez for a few years now having moved on from Gumbet.
For a start it is much more relaxed. Less hassle than Gumbet and Bodrum when walking along, and much quieter and less commercialised or geared towards the holidaymakers. A few good restaurants to eat at too (Almera and Bambu of worthy note, superb...)
The whole beachfront has a nice relaxing ambience to it that you simply don't get in Gumbet or Bodrum. Plenty of restaurants and bars, and a quant little market shopping area.
For a nice spot to do some sunbathing and take a dip I'd recommend the section directly in front of Bambu. Great staff and great service. Also a good place to eat.
You'll notice that you'll be surrounded by alot of Turkish families enjoying their holidays. Bitez is a popular destination with the Turks, so it must be doing something right.
Beach if great (if a little stony) and water is clear and clean. Great little cove with great views.
We usually have a few half days lazing down on the beach during our stay and find it a thoroughly pleasant and relaxing place. It is however just as nice in the evening for a beer or dinner.
If you are after a hotel in Bitez, we would thoroughly recommend the Meis Apartments. 5 minute walk from the beachfront and a great place to stay.

A group of friends and myself went to Bitez Oct 06 and May 07
the reason being in Oct 06 to celabrate one of my friend 25th wedding anniversary and i loved it that much that i decided
that i wanted to spend my 50th birthday there, we booked through James Villas and had the most fantastic time the villa
had 4 bedrooms its own pool and was set in fabulus gardens
feti (the caretakers) was on hand when ever you needed him
and his english was very good. The villa was a short walk from the beach surrounded by bars and resturants which we sampled
at a reasonable price most days. The people were really friendly
and most acomodating. The surounding towns of gumbet and
bodrum are really worth a visit by dulmus these are like our
buses and run on most main roads. when boarding prices are
in pounds euros and lira really easy to use. Taxi are cheap also
but very quick road the roads (bit scary at times). I would go back tomorrow fantastic place.

Bitez beach is a truly lovely beach with sun beds dipping into the waters of the Aegean Sea and all the sun beds are free. there is shingle at the waters edge and stones for a few meters as you walk into the sea if you have swimming shoes its a good idea to wear them as the stones can be difficult. in some parts of the beach, To the right of the mosque up by the chinese restaurant there is more sand.It is a safe beach but there are no lifeguards on duty. There are water sports available if so desired. Each restaurant will bring your food and drinks to your sunbed or you can dine at a table at the waters edge.,The water is usually warm and very refreshing. The only thing i find annoying about the beach is the loud head banging music especially at the oklapitus hotel area of the beach and indeed on other areas when people are relaxing one would think they would play nice holiday relaxing music.

I can't begin to describe how awful this place is. I've never been to Magaluf, but I would guess this is the Turkish equivalent. If any aspiring resort wants to see what happens if you don't control development come here. Went here at last minute on the back of lonely planet review - don't know when their reviewer went here, but must have been a long time ago, or he/she must have had a complete failure of all their senses.

Gumbet/bitez is a big sweeping bay to the west of bodrum. Originally it must have been quite pleasant, now virtually every inch is taken up with cheap restaurants and bars totally lacking in any Turkish authenticity. You are constantly harassed by guys trying to persuade you to eat/drink or go on one of the awful boat trips. I've been to turkey before, and found the people and food great. Here , there's nothing to distinguish one place from another. The food is cheap, but forgettable, and staff will say anything to sell you something. One place said they could do me a mezze - after about half hour they produced something that must have been everything at the back of their fridge that was getting near its sell-by date. Totally inedible.

Everywhere does a full English breakfast for 10 tkl - had once, and wouldn't vouch for the origins of the pork sausages! Apart from that, good value

From morning to night there is the constant throb of heavy bass from the proliferation of tacky discos epitomised by the local foam party. (Their budget only goes to providing about a 3" covering of foam)

I feel really sorry for any locals who have bought holiday homes next to this. Really can't imagine who this place would appeal to apart from the worst sort of stag/hen dos. Oddly, most of the visitors here are families, or well behaved youngsters - judging by the emptiness of the bars what's on offer has little appeal to this constituency, and I can't imagine anyone in their right mind wanting to come back.

Amazingly, if you venture away from the beach, the place gets even tackier, and bodrum itself doesn't seem much better.

Only redeeming feature was good accommodation - we stayed at the royal arsalik - unfortunately there was no escaping the incessant noise of thumping music, and pleased to be heading home after a week. Bitez side of bay is better than Gumbet wrt to places to stay, but I'd avoid completely unless you're hard of hearing and overdue a visit to specsavers.

Apparently visitor numbers down dramatically because of Tunisia, but if the place was busy I can't imagine how hell-like it would be. Surely Turks aspire to providing resorts more representative of their country than this?

The umbrellas and sunbeds are free and there are lots of cafes which you can have cold drinks and food easily.
