Small but really interesting

Was in Male for one day, which was long enough, and stumbled across the fish market. The smell was enough to put anyone off so unless you're an ardent fan of the smell of fish, I would give this a wide berth.

The market is used by almost all of Maldivian . So you can see their real life and of course get fresh fishes. But it's not so clean place because of seawater and sea smell. So maybe it's better not to use new favorite shoes!

Always fascinating to see how seafaring communities function, and this fish market is a truly remarkable place. Combined with the nearby produce market you'll get a sense of how commerce functions old-school style in one of the most densely-populated capitals on earth. After your visit head to the rooftop (7th floor) of the nearby Salt Cafe & Restaurant for dazzling... More

I spent one night and one day in Male and walked to the fish market from my hotel - Tour Rest Inn. There were a ton of mackerel and tuna - some upwards of a couple hundred pounds, and a few wahoo, upwards of 50 pounds. I walked through it and took a couple of photos, but spent a whole... More

It was indeed a great experience to visit Male fish market. You can explore the beauty of Sea fishes which were directly brought from the sea. This place is crowdy & noisy but you can get a glimpse of busy life of fishermen. Large number of fresh sea fishes would give you a new experience. Be aware of bad smell!

Tuna is almost extinct, still 1 euro/kilo. I understand you have to make a living. it is the fish and the people working on these boats that are paying the price. Then the plastic bags are everywhere. On land in the harbor,... Here is your fish, please throw your plastic bag afterwards into the sea. Nobody cares apparently, the goverment... More

Malé Fish Market is a one-time go-to place for tourists in Malé since there's not much to see other than this. The market is an unkempt place with water everywhere and fishmongers selling fish. This should not be termed as an attraction. However, how the business takes place at the harbour right next to it is quite a place. Huge... More
