This is the fastest way to get to the city from Petaling Jaya, Subang, Klang, Old Klang road. You pay the three ringgit for using this underground tunnel starting from Jalan Sungai Besi. It ends up either at the entrance to Jalan Sultan Ismail of Jalan Tun Razak.

I'm a local and I will sometimes use this smart tunnel to go to Jln tun razak to avoid the bad traffic at Jln sg.Besi .It runs as a underground highway which there's a fee to pay at the toll using my touch & go card . But there's still flood sometimes in certain part in KL even this tunnel helps with the drainage system .

This is the fastest way to get to the Bukit Bintang shopping belt from the Federal Highway/Petaling Jaya/southern Kuala Lumpur. It saves a lot of time and had a speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour. You have to pay RM3 for this convenience which is worth it.

The SMART Tunnel is a underground bypass and was constructed to reduce time spend by vehicles from 20 minutes to 8 minutes from Sungei Besi into the City Centre at Jalan Tun Razak near the RHB bank. SMART Tunnel cuts travelling time by bypassing the jam overhead. This is one of the smartest way to beat the horrible Sg Besi crawl whether you are coming from PJ going to Bukit Bintang or KLCC. It is as well, also a drainage system which is an architectural marvel masterpiece in the modern engineering. It is a genius way of managing the flood water during torrential rains and divert traffic during peak hours during non heavy rainy days.
It is the longest underground drainage system in the South East Asia and won several prizes.
The taxi I hired paid 3 RM for using the SMART Tunnel, the wonder of the modern world; but it is fully worth it. There are three sections of this SMART Tunnel. The Upper and the middle sections, cater the traffic. The bottom section carry water as drainage to Taman Desa Lake. But during heavy downpours, the traffic is stopped and uses all three sections as draining of flood waters. There is a device which allows all vehicles to go off the tunnel before opening of the middle and the upper sections for drainage of water.

this is an underground bypass and a drainage system. it start near sungai Besi and ends at the junction of jalan tun razak near the RHB Bank. during a jam this actually helps to cut traveling time but you need to pay toll charges. during a heavy down pour it is closed and converted into a drainage system where the water drained to the taman desa lake. not sure if it helps during a heavy down pour. this is not an attraction.

Driving between Singapore and KL, the SMART Tunnel cuts travelling time by bypassing the jam overhead. If you are travelling from SG to KL, there are two exits: Bukit Bintang or KLCC. However, if you are headed for Bukit Bintang, there is still the horrendous traffic jam at Jalan Sultan Ismail approaching the Bukit Bintang area to contend with, and worse, if you have to loop around Jalan Raja Chulan to get to the hotels like Westin and JW Marriott. The toll is RM3 and it is worth paying it to skip one jam.

This is one of the smartest way to beat the horrible Sg Besi crawl whether you are coming from PJ going to Bukit Bintang or KLCC. It saves you easily 15 minutes. From pj the tunnel comes out either at the Parkroyal Hotel/Berjaya Times Square side or the KLCC Jalan Tun Razak. Worth the RM3.

Suppose to be able to help with flood waters. Nothing much except a tunnel for motorist to use. Heard from friends that sometimes it helps, sometimes it does not. KL being KL.... :)

A genius way to contain flood water during rainy days and divert traffic during peak hours. My only hope is that they improve flaws, increase security at sharp bends, and perhaps reduce in toll in time to come

Hi, at our Kuala lumpur visit, we just want to travel thru this smart tunnel. We will be using Grab or Uber. Can we stop the taxi inside the tunnel in 1/2 places to capture a photo :)?
Thanks. Deepak.

You cannot do this because there is no place to stop. You enter near the former Sungai Besi air base and come out either at jalan Sultan Ismail or KLCC.
