About
MUD: THE STORY OF KUALA LUMPUR, The Musical, traces the story of the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur's early beginnings as a small agricultural village of the 1850s, to an industrial tin mining town of the 1880s, and to becoming the administrative capital of the Federated Malay States in 1896. It's told through the lives of three friends who find that by facing their challenges living in this growing town, they find themselves too. MUD infuses traditional theatre form with modern theatrical technology. This 1-hour musical is a visual feast that will not only excite all visitors to Malaysia, it also commemorate the bricks that built this city we call our home. MUD is housed within the 112-year-old Panggung Bandaraya, or City Theatre, built at the confluence of Klang River and Gombak River. This building rose among the KL's early architecture. A Moorish façade wraps this building, which has been classified as a heritage building under the Antiquities Act. MUD: THE STORY OF KUALA LUMPUR is presented by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), a project by Visit KL, and produced by Tiara Jacquelina, award-winning producer of Puteri Gunung Ledang and P.Ramlee The Musical under Enfiniti Vision Media.

I adore all the actors in this show, very diligent and very dedicated, talented. Wonderful performance.

It is suitable for both Malaysians and foreigners.

We were just passing this theatre and had no thought to look for a dramatic performance, though I love theatre and follow the RSC and British theatre as well as often seeing local dances from the different places we visit.

Popping in partly as an excuse to use the loo we decided to go for the afternoon performance (taking a bit of persuasion of my partner who finally agreed as it was about to rain!!)

But we were so entranced with the performance - the energy and colour was fantastic and the storyline was very interesting about the beginnings of Kuala Lumpur built on the mud from the confluence of the two rivers through the personal stories of three friends representing different communities. My partner whispered to me about ten minutes in how much he was enjoying it! That is worth five starts in itself!!

Using various art forms the actors interact with media screens behind as well as moments of audience participation - which isn't as painful as it sounds!! The actors sang and danced beautifully, the script was great - predominantly in English which was great for us, and there was both humour and pathos.

Honestly I cannot praise this enough - I would gladly go and watch it again: at least as good as anything on the London West End. At just over an hour I wanted more because it was so good; but I guess for busy tourists this might be a good length and it certainly followed a very satisfying storylne, which taught me a lot about the history of Kuala Lumpur as well.

Do go and see it - it will enhance your understanding of Kuala Lumpur and give you a hauntingly beautiful afternoon/evening. Most seats in the theatre are good viewing as it is a raked seating area. The very front is low compared with the stage but the viewing would still be good. We were at the side and it wasn't a problem. Best seats probably halfway back in the middle.

P.S. They encouraged us to feel free to take photos - otherwise I never would in a theatrical performance!

We discovered this show on Trip Advisor and it was absolutely spectacular. There are two performances daily at 3.00pm and 8.00pm. The performance has 4 acts.
Just a reminder that the evening performance isn’t staged of an evening during Ramadan, but the website informs you of this.

The cast were so professional and at the same time friendly. We were invited to join the cast on two different occasions of the performance which made it extra memorable for us. They warmly welcomed us and taught us the dance. Admittedly it was a small audience the afternoon we attended.
This is our 6th visit to KL in the past 5 years and we weren't aware of this show. I would highly recommend the show to anyone visiting KL. You are encouraged to take photos and share them on social media, which is a pleasant change from the shows you see in Australia.

The theatre has magnificent early 20th century architecture and a lovely ambience. The performance is vibrant, interactive, colourful, and informative. The cast have great vocals and are passionate about telling the origins of their city of Kuala Lumpur. We enjoyed every minute and were disappointed when the hour performance concluded. It was a pleasant surprise and extra special when at the conclusion the theatre staff offered to take photos of us with the cast who graciously posed with the members of the audience.
It is easily accessible from Masjid Jamek on the purple line KTM commuter rail. About a five minute walk. It is best to arrive fifteen miuntes early to purchase your ticket. The show was extremely, reasonably priced at AUD45 for two adults. Not to be missed and a must see when visiting KL.

This must be the biggest secret in KL!! I have been living in KL for 18 years and I didn't know about this hidden gem. Amazing ambience in this theatre with a spectacular performance - vibrant, interactive, colourful, informative and best of all, it's all heart. The story is simple and compelling, the set is well-designed and the performers are professional with great vocals.

Everyone, and i mean every single one of us, MUST go - whether you're a Malaysian or a visitor, go, go, go and be immersed in 50-mins of pure entrancement. It suits all ages and all backgrounds.

Congratulations to the performers and fabulous team behind the show. I will be back and I will bring every single visitor I have to see this! Well done. Love it.

My only wish - it was longer :)

As someone who works in this industry I wasn't sure what to expect, as the show has been running a lot and for a long time. Also, the cast had only 4 in the audience at an afternoon performance, so not the easiest of houses to work with.

I was so pleasantly surprised, their energy levels were brilliant, they engaged with the audience well and got a lot of story across in a very short span of time.

It was in English with other languages mixed in, which is a really nice flavour that reflects Kuala Lumpur well. I came out knowing more about KL and having a lot of fun at the same time.

Thanks for such a fun show!

Go support and learn a bit of KL history, plus have some fun!

Friends
The first cast must have been good to get so many good reviews, but this one was very disappointing.
1. A lot of the conversation was mumbled and unclear
2. At times, the music drowned out the voices of the singers
3. There were a lot of foreigners in the crowd and conversations in Mandarin, BM and Tamil weren't translated
4. Both the waiting area outside the theater and the theater itself did not have air conditioning.

All in all, not worth the price of the ticket.

So much more than I expected, a colourful, vibrant, dramatic experience. Be ready to get up and participate as they do call on a few members of the audience!

And what's more, our teenagers (11, 13, 15) said that all theatre performances should be like this.
It's a fairly short show (1 hour) with more people on stage than in the audience, but a very enthustiastic cast.

As a tourist, this musical was the best attraction I've enjoyed in kL. There was more people playing on stage than watching the show but the enthusiasm of the actors was great. A real treat
