The Dayabumi Complex is a landmark of Kuala Lumpur. Built in 1984, I’m sure it was very modern for it’s time. The 2 distinctive features of the building is the shape like a star, and the facade which is covered in latticework of repeating star shapes in the tradition of islamic art. The whole building is in white concrete and to be honest, I found it a bit bland and sterile, but that’s just my opinion.

The complex is also a mixed use of shops and offices, but there’s hardly any shops and the cafes were pretty empty. In my humble opinion, if you really want to see the building, go ahead. Admiring it from afar will be enough though. I certainly wouldn’t come here for the shops.

There are mostly local activities, but some travelers likely attracted to the arts of the buildings, as well as the soft landscapes such as ornamental plant and shady trees that support the hard landscape (Building, sculpture etc.), On that time the building constructed, most other big-scale landmarks are influenced by Malay, Islamic design.

It is part of the "River of Life" walkway. A symbol of early skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Nice and unique Islamic architecture! Go have a visit!

The Pos Besar building and the City Point shopping center are part of the Dayabumi complex that is dominated by a majestic sky scraper, a tower with 35 storeys. At the time -beginning of the 1980s- it was a prestigious project and part of the Bumiputra policy of the government. Islamic design, opportunities for the Bumiputra entrepeneurs, a state of the art General Post Office, connections with mass transportation systems being developed, all to be realized within one project.

Now 35 years after the tower was completed, many of the shops in city point are empty, the GPO has become more like a parcel delivery company and it remains unclear if office space in the tower is used efficiently. The center of KL has shifted towards the northeast. The neglect of the old area is underscored by the fact you can not even walk from central market to the post office anymore without having to climb staircases to a jungle of pedestrian tunnels.

A very unique and special high rise incorporating Islamic design in the marble facade. This is one of my favourite buildings in KL although not one of the modern gleaming towers. Very unique design with the carved marble facade covering the entire building turning it into a giant 3D artwork while being functional as an office complex.

Standing across from the National Mosque, this white colored 35 storey building has incorporated interesting Islamic design into its architecture. It was built to resemble a mosque. It was one of the city's earliest skyscrapers. The Pos Malaysia office is located on its lower levels and it used to house the Petronas headquarters before they moved to the Petronas Twin Towers.

Dayabumi Complex is one of Kuala Lumpur's major landmarks which houses Pos Malaysia's headquarter office and other offices (I haven't explored every level yet, so I'm not sure what else are up there) and it is among the earliest skyscraper in Malaysia. To me, the modern-Islamic design of Dayabumi Complex is really wow.

Dayabumi Complex is located next to Kuala Lumpur komuter station (a station before KL Central station) and opposite Pasar Seni LRT station (Kelana Jaya line - a station before KL Central station). Next to the complex is Central Market where people can buy souvenirs and behind Central Market you can find The Annexe Gallery, a center for contemporary arts. Not far from Dayabumi Complex on the other side, there are a textile museum, Kuala Lumpur Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur Library, Merdeka Square, Sultan Abdul Samad Building, Federal House and National Mosque. Next to National Mosque, there is an Islamic Art Gallery. All can be reached by walking from Dayabumi Complex.

By the way, if you want to park your vehicle at Dayabumi Complex don't be fooled by the sign RM2.50 per entry. That is only applicable after 5PM on weekdays and Saturday, and the whole day on Sunday and public holiday. The first hour, you are charged RM3.00 and RM2.50 for the subsequent hour. If you're planning to stay longer, maybe you should park at Dayabumi Complex since the maximum you need to pay there is RM16.

If you take the bridge from Pasar Seni bus station and cross the river you can get to walk right below the structure. It looks stunning from there. You can use a fish eye lens (7-8.5mm) or wide angle (10-16mm) which gives some great effects. The regular patterns and star shapes on a blue sky is incredible. Took 50+ awesome shots - security guys are friendly too!
