Malayan Pewter, Selangor Pewter Malaya, Selangor Pewter Malaysia, Selangor Pewter, Royal Selangor Pewter - The evolution and history of what is today famously known as Royal Selangor is just some of the takeaways you will come to be familiar with after completing the guided tour at the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre. Tucked away in the suburbs of Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, this venue effecfively simultaneously achieves being a museum, a manufacturing factory, an exhibition centre and souvenir shop.

The interior is very well kept (including bathrooms) and our guided tour experience (which I highly recommend) led by the impressive Ravi left us with a deeper awareness of Royal Selangor's rich history and a great deal of appreciation for the level of craftsmanship that goes into their pewter products; the vast majority are molded and created by hand. Swing by on weekdays to see more of the factory in action.

With parking fees skyrocketing in shopping malls and crowd levels returning to pre-pandemic times, the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre is a fantastic alternative for both tourists and locals alike. The guided tour (or self guided if you prefer) and parking is free and the cafe inside serves up good food at reasonable prices.

Growing up in the 90s, the Royal Selangor brand was synonymous with pricey goods and the pride of the nation. Fast forward to today and upon spending time at the souvenir shop, you can definitely find many practical items at various price points. Pop culture based pewter such as Marvel, Harry Potter, Disney, Star Wars and others are definitely worth checking out while sister companies Comyns and Selberan cater to more upscale clientele.

As with most companies, I can't imagine how badly Royal Selangor was impacted by the pandemic and I hope they're able to find their feet again. With almost 150 years of history to their name, I hope this family owned business can still thrive and uphold their quality over time. This visitor center is a good way to showcase the best of Malaysia and exceeded my expectations. I'd easily recommend checking out this place.

What a life!?! the best things in life are free, indeed!!!
First time to experience being welcome by the tour guide the moment you enter the museum and guide you through as well which are the top choices at the Café.

As the tour guide knowledgeably stating the important persons, dates and events and Narrating how did it all begin, about the foundation of Royal Selangor, the Founder, first Pewter smiths, the family and the connections.

Showcasing the magnificent and finest collections of products, exquisitely and manually molded. You'll learn the processes from compound or raw preparation, melting, polishing and finishing.

Recommendable and worth as much time as you have available!

Join the free guided tour with my family, we were served by Tracy, an English speaking guide who is very friendly and knowledgeable. The tour is really fun and informative as we get to visit the museum to learn about the history and look at the preserved pewter. The Science Discovery Gallery allowed us to play along as well. The most memorable experience is the Live Craftmanship Showcase which we were able to watch how the well-trained pewtersmiths craft each products (and we also have the chance to try on!). This is definitely a must-visit place in Selangor!

This was one of the best half day experiences I had in Kuala Lumpur, among so many wonderful things. For a remarkably inexpensive entrance fee, I was given a personal tour of the remarkable museum, two workshops to make pewter jewellery and a delicious lunch.
Melody is a personable, knowledgeable ambassador for Selangor pewter. Her pride in her country's culture and in the company was infectious. She seemed to know everything, even the amount of beer the giant tankard in the courtyard could hold. The museum was designed to showcase the incredible pewter artworks. It was one of the most innovative museums I'd been in. Then I was given a chance to actually make my own pewter jewellery. The art teachers A. and H. were patient, and encouraging, ensuring that I left with pieces I could wear proudly. The day ended in the beautiful cafe where I was served a full and very delicious meal. I had no idea what a great day I was going to have but visiting Royal Selangor Visitor Centre will remain a highlight of my trip.

This place takes you through the history of pewter making from the tin rush in Malaysia and the founding of Royal Selangor in 1885, makers of the world’s finest pewter.

Trip was organised very last minute, and on a bit of a whim, but we had a great time. There is a small, but free and informative, museum and science section, and it's also great to be able to see the factory and some of the methods used in producing the products.

We were assisted by an extremely polite employee, Hoe Nam, who helped us to book onto an activity on the day (School of Hard Knocks - where another great employee, Gordon, helped us create our own pewter bowls), and then also helped us purchase a few gifts for friends, before arranging a free transfer back to our hotel

All in all, a great way to spend a few hours in an interesting factory, run by some great employees

The Batu Caves tour stopped here for twenty minutes. A guide took us on a tour of the factory and the history of the manufacturing process. Very interesting. The showroom at the end of the tour has a wide display of finished products like household goods, jewellery. Worth a visit and worth owning a piece of this special metal, that can be handed down the generations.

Pleasantly surprised - we wanted to just visit batu caves but the guide added on this visitor centre which the kids loved. The tour didn’t last long but interesting stories and beautiful pieces of art and pieces to buy. Shame it was so expensive as I’d loved to have take one or two items home

Although we don't usually like yours we took advantage of a free hotel shuttle. Our guide, Erin, was delightful and very informative. We learned a lot about pewter. Some lovely William Morris designs. An excellent cafe with plate glass windows through which I watched a pair of Civets (known locally as moussang) which are the weasel pooh coffee critters you see in Vietnam! No pressure to buy.
