    Big Beautiful Mosque
We stopped by dring the visiting hours for non-Muslims. If you are modestly dressed with pants and shirt then one was ok to enter but wearing shorts, sleeveless tops required a mosque provided purple robe to cover up. Once inside we could wander throughout except where blocked off for Muslims only. The main attractions were the pool in front of the minaret, gardens, small museum and the large prayer hall. In the prayer hall we were met by a volunteer who gave us a little history about the mosque as well as Islam. Very insightful and worth a visit.

    Impressive from the outside
The National Mosque (Masjid Negara) is the main mosque in Kuala Lumpur. We arrived during prayer times so we couldn't get in, just walk around the gardens and see it from the outside. It's quite big and new.

    Symbol for Islam in Malaysia.
Beautiful architecture is a feature of one of the most distinguished landmarks in KL. We had enjoyed views of the building externally while on a shore excursion, on this occasion we were able to visit the interior and ancillary areas. Good information signage and we learnt that the dome is a unique star shape, impressive looking upwards but had to suffice with the model for the plan view. The minaret rises to a height of 73m. Like most modern mosques that we have visited during our travels, the building is a combination of modern architecture and engineering with water features, traditional Islamic Art, calligraphy and ornamentation. The photos that I will post give an insight to the beauty of the building. Free guided tours and free robes supplied if inadequately attired. The mosque was accorded National Heritage status in 2007.

Pair with a visit to Islamic Art Museum
Hardly a must see but an interesting building and experience for us who haven't been to many mosques before. It is very close to the Islamic Arts museum which we wanted to see anyway, so a visit can be paired with that. It doesn't take long , maybe 15 mins. You are provided with a robe at entry to cover arms and legs.

Great Mosque, a combination of several architectural influences and spacious and gracious. the tour was free and the volunteers are extremely frenziedly and never ever hinted about money or donations. Please visit in the morning to avoid heat.

    A beautiful mosque
The National Mosque of Malaysia is open to non-muslim however you must adhere and respect their rules. There is a designated space for non-muslim and you have to cover up. However, we opted not to go inside and just appreciated the architectural structure from outside.

A very beautiful mosque is the spiritual center and symbol of Islam for the entire Muslim Kuala Lumpur. Robes with hoods are provided free of charge at the entrance; without them, entry into the territory will not be allowed. The main hall of the mosque seats 8 thousand people, we were able to go in and admire its rich decoration; at the time of our visit there were only a few people in the hall. The mosque is crowned with a ribbed star-shaped dome, the eighteen corners of which symbolize the 13 states of Malaysia and the “5 Pillars of Islam”. The mosque complex includes a 73 m high minaret. The architecture of the building reveals traditional Islamic artistic traditions, but interpreted in a modern way.

The national mosque is located southwest of the city, on a hill. Open to non-Muslims outside prayer times, it is possible to visit it after registering at the counter via an online form.

The mosque is open from Saturday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday, only open in the afternoon. Entrance is free and, if you do not wear the appropriate clothing to enter, you will be loaned a tunic/dress whether you are a man or a woman.

The prayer room is very large, you walk around a pool where the minaret is located. The building, modern in appearance, has a nice design and, from the terrace and balconies, we have a beautiful view of Kuala and the surrounding buildings.

The welcome is friendly and smiling, very warm. We feel that tourists are welcome to discover Malaysian culture. There is a small museum section with the history of the construction and renovation of the mosque with photos and other objects as well as a model. A few small stands sell snacks and other local food.

A pleasant visit

A stunning piece of architecture, the national mosque in Kuala Lumpur was one of our trip highlights. Make sure you check opening times before going. You also need to be dressed appropriately. Don't worry if you're not though, as they will provide you with complimentary robes if you need to cover up. The mosque is peaceful and serene inside, a welcome respite from a day of city sightseeing. The prayer hall is massive and very much worth a look.

I would definitely recommend including this destination as you explore the sights of Kuala Lumpur.

This was an underwhelming experience and not a positive one either. Everyone greeted us very cordially and we’re given head-coverings upon arrival. I has the expectation that this would be a more cultural experience, learning about the history of the mosque, the Islam faith, and the architecture of the building. Boy, I was in for a treat. The tour guide that gave us the whole run down was very nice, friendly and informative, but it got to the point where he almost got TOO pushy with his way of explaining Islam to my friends and I, to the point where we felt really uncomfortable, not to mention he was just openly trashing and criticizing other faiths, which is not ok regardless of whether your practice any other religions. I respected him for exercising his faith and being passionate about it, but don’t shove it down my throat and definitely don’t try to convince me that it’s your way or the highway and everyone else is wrong. Aside from that, I thought the building in itself is nice, but nothing extraordinary that blew my mind. I could say you Can skip this and make room for other activities on your list.

I am a foreigner who wanted to perform his salah with his family. We were denied entry due to my wife being improperly covered – she wears hijab. Further, I was declined entry for not registering – no registration, no salah. Only after talking to a number of security guards was I allowed, alone, without wife and children, to enter. Needless to say, that I ultimately did not perform my prayer in this masjid. Will most definitely never visit again in my life, in sha Allah. May Allah guide them.

As Christians (non-Muslims) we enjoyed our visit to the National Mosque in KL. The prayer space is huge & the design & architecture of the building lends itself to a contemplative & peaceful space. Most people were given a gown to ensure they were dressed modestly and that women’s heads were covered. A good insight into the religious diversity of KL.
