We visited Lazat cooking class as a family of seven, and had a fantastic time. We started at the market to look at some of the ingredients, and then went to spend a morning cooking, delicious traditional Malaysian food. Ana,Maz Irene and the team were Knowledgeable and friendly, and our results were very tasty! Heartily recommend this as a way of getting to know more about Malaysian food and spending some fun time together!

I had a beautiful and tasteful half day with LaZat😍
First, I started with a market tour with Celina. We had a very good breakfast with cofee and local specialities, and after we visited different shops. I could buy differents products at a really good price, so I eill be able to cook malaysian food at home!
As we were only two this day, we even had the time to have a good chat with her.
It is a very nice experience to go go a local market with somebody who knows a lot about local fructs, vegetables, sauces, etc!
After the tour I had the opportunity to cook a complete menu with Maz - she is a beautiful cook and a very good teacher. This day we had on the menu apam balek, char koay teow and otak otak.
She explained me everything, even the smallest details and replyed all my questions about spices, sauces and so on.
I hope to come back in July, and I am sure to go again to LaZat. Thank you for this beautiful experience!

I absolutely loved this cooking class. We got a transfer from our hotel in KL in a very comfortable mink bus (which I recommend) and were taken to the market. The market tour was very interesting and we ate delicious roti canai, as well as saw it being made.
The cooking class itself is excellent value. We did the Malaysian classic. The ladies who run the place are so friendly and spent time chatting to us about the country, giving us recommendations and were incredibly hospitable.
We cooked in the most incredible setting and were even given cold towels to keep us cool.
This class is well worth every penny and I highly recommend it. You even get a recipe book to take home.

First- this is more than just a cooking class! We learned many cooking techniques and things about Malaysian cooking. But we also learned about Malaysian culture, a few words, and laughed a lot.
Saadiah was AMAZING - ask for her!! She was full of knowledge, patient, and helpful. She wants I make sure each person understood, was having fun, and doing well.
If I was in KL longer, I would book a second class- it was a highlight of our trip!

It was great! We had a lot of fun with Saadiah; and she taught us her tricks with ease but determination :-) The food was delicious. I thought it was great that everyone had their own station and there was something for everyone to do. Thank you very much. Many thanks.

Really have a great time with Irene for 2 morning classes. She is a good trainer and let us enjoy the class with fun. Learnt a lot about Malaysian cooking way. Irene let’s us know how to use herbs and how to multiply some ingredients so as to give out the same result. Did try to practice after back to home. I can cook Malaysian curry now. Strongly recommend those cooking lover to try the class when you travel to Malaysia.

This class was so much fun! I took the Saturday morning class with Saadiah—she taught us so much about Malay culture while showing us how to prepare Nasi Lamak, rendang, and other things. She was hilarious! The 4 hours flew by and we all had a great meal together. Can’t wait to try it at home!

I booked the class via email which they kindly accepted a reservation and suggested they offer a pickup and drop off at the hotel for extra 30 rm per pax. I was totally happy to go with that and later was told to wait in the hotel lobby on the day at 9.15am.
On the day, my husband and I made sure we were at the hotel lobby by 9.10am and I kept looking out of the hotel entrance to see if I can see the car which was going to pick us (They told us the reg of the car and make!). By 9.30am, still no sign of them and then I get a message from the hotel to call a number, it was Ani from LaZat. She informed me that she is running 10 mins late and coming from Chinatown and asked us to wait. I was OK about this and kept waiting.
At 10:10am, we were getting impatient and still no sign of the pickup car. I had even requested the doorman to look out for me! By 10:15am, I decided that enough waiting of a whole hour, so I approached our hotel receptionist to discuss about whether to keep waiting. The point is, if the traffic was bad, they should know what KL traffic was like and being late for over an hour is very strange. Anyway by 10:20am, I decided to tell our receptionist that if La Zat pickup turns up, to let them know we decided to cancel. Then we left our hotel.
After we came back to the hotel, there was no message left. Basically I do not even know if they did turn up.
I am giving a fair rating here because they did come along friendly, helpful and responsible. However, I think their time keeping let them down. I was so disappointed and we were gutted with the waiting. Surely they know what the traffic situation is like in KL, why did they not leave earlier to do pickups. Another thing, why did they not call again if they are going to be later than 10 mins. I do not understand what happened with them.
It has been over 2 weeks since that day. I have not heard from La Zat about any response. I am not rating their cooking class as I did not have that opportuny but the lack of communication was disappointment for me!
I would recommend this but make your own way there!

My friends and I had such a wonderful day at Lazat. We went first to a local wet market and were shown round by Laty. She took us from stall to stall showing us local produce and explained how these things were used in local dishes. The spice stall owned by Rose was the highlight. She seemed to have tubs of every ingredient ,freshly ground, chopped and prepared , which she mixed to order so that you can make your own curry at home...
The genuine old Malay house which houses Lazat is in such a beautiful rural setting.
Everything was very well organised and the staff such fun. Sue, our 'Malaysian Nigella' made our day such fun. She is a star! We chopped, ground, mixed, fried, and cooked ourselves the most delicious Thai food which we ate when we had finished along with the other group. It was lovely to sit round a table with people from the world over and talk food and experiences. I will definitely be going back to try the other types of cooking they offer. I can thoroughly recommend this to anyone who wants an authentic Malay experience.

I had the pleasure of taking this class last week on holiday. The staff is amazing. From the driver who picks you up from your accommodation to program director, to the hilarious grandma-esque cooking staff who were screaming and wielding knives at the hungry monkeys that would come from the near by forest and try to eat the prep food at our cooking stations.
The whole morning is so relaxed. The trip to the market where you can buy your own taste of Malaysia for later is fantastic.
Later going to the cooking school where you are given your own cooking station, a cook book to make notes in and given step by step instructions on each dish is a divine experience.
I would recommend this to all ages. I suggest if you like to solo travel like myself and are younger, bring a friend along. I had a great time as i love to cook but taking the class with two older women as my peers was a little intimidating for me haha.
Over all amazing. They even gave me the left over food which I took with me on my travels and shared with people at my hostel the next day.

Yes! When I attended the cooking class with my husband there was another family with a younger girl. She had help from the staff for a few items that needed to be prepped but overall the girl seemed to have a great time

We had in the past parents bringing their toddler and as long as the toddler is comfortable, not crying much, as it may disturb the other students, then you are most welcome to do so.

What is the cost of your cooking class, and what is the website I look up to see the schedule?
Written February 20, 2016
I believe my friend contacted them via phone and got the arrangement done that way. The cost is about 50 USD for a class that last from 9am through 3pm, included cooking 4 different dishes and having lunch. You make payment at the end of the class. Hope you enjoy!
