Most people coming to Nagasaki like to rave about the Atomic Bomb Museum yet few would mention this one. Built by the famous architect Kenzi Kuma, this museum IMHO is a real hidden gem. I was surprised by how empty this elegant museum is- we...More

The building: great Japanese design, wood, water, light, views from the roof top. Great Spanish permanent collection. But the highlight was the temporary Oedo exhibition, really amazing. Facilities, gift shops. Easy access. Close to the promenade in the port. You can even walk to the...More

The only disappointment during my Japan trip! Terribly unfriendly employees. None of them (!) spoke or wanted to speak, understood or wanted to understand English. For a place of international culture - not good at all. The permanent collection might be free, but for a...More

The building by itself is an art. Walk around to appreciate the design. Also go up to the roof to see the entire city from there, which is a must. Exhibits by local artists are very nice.

I love the admission-free rooftop garden. It is a nice and peaceful place to enjoy the sunshine and have good views of the harbour.

The art museum itself is a major part of the attraction, both outside and in, with great views of the surrounding port/harbour area from the rooftop. There are a few galleries with a combination of permanent and special exhibitions, but there didn't seem to be...More

I did not do much research for Nagasaki, and was therefore glad that my curiosity brought me here. Designed by Kengo Kuma (隈研吾), the Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art is built on both sides of a canal with an enclosed glass walkway over the water....More

The building designed by Kengo Kuma is an object of art in itself providing great and elegant spaces for the exhibitions.
