We were very disappointed with this tour. I don't know if the other tour companies in town are the same, but I would say the vast majority of the tours with this company do not land because it is too "dangerous". The weather looked good to us, there were small swells, nobody was sea sick, the boat was able to... More

I booked a trip with Gunkanjima Concierge in April. Unfortunately the earthquake happened and I wasn't able to make it down to Nagasaki. The company was super helpful and understanding - they refunded me without questioning. Thanks again for the service, hopefully until next time.

We went to Gunkanjima today. We got a warning that due to "bad weather" we might not land at the island. When asked if the chances of not landing were big all the guy att the desk said that it was the captain's decision upon arrival. Since the wind was normal and the sea did not look to rough, we... I didn't even get to step on the island yet they took my money. Gunjanjima was high on my list of sights to see whilst travelling through Japan. So while in Nagasaki I researched different tours and experiences. Really only two companies were in my price range this one and Gunkanjima Cruise Co. I originally booked with the latter only... As many people have noted, this is a tour. And for a very good reason. Many of the buildings are in a state of disrepair and are literally crumbling. When the mines were closed some thirty-odd years ago, associated equipment was hastily removed. This all creates a safety hazard. Allowing tourists to freely roam at their own leisure under these... I enjoyed this tour and got some great photos. For the English speakers you get an audio speaker but there's a bit of static through it and you miss out in some info. Still informative about the history though. Parts of the James bond film sky fall was filmed here so it was a cool place to see.

This tour, like many tours, takes the travel experience out of your hands and deprives you of doing things on your terms ... as a traveler. That said, Gunkanjima Concierge does its best to make the experience as meaningful and worthwhile as possible. However, the non-stop commentary (in Japanese) blaring from loudspeakers was so loud on the top deck that... More

I had been curious about seeing Gunkanjima and quickly booked a tour with this very popular company. The price is reasonable. The check-in involves a long line so make sure you are there early to get through it and line up for the loading of the boat. We made the mistake of sitting upstairs for the tour. It is excruciatingly... More

With an english speaking guide it would have been very good. They do offer an english language audio guide, but the sound keeps cutting out (at least mine did). The tour itself is excellent - You get to se an otherwise inaccessible part of Japans modern history, presented by a former resident of the island. Tip: do take the rainponcho... More

Good enthousiastic people. Tour is very informative with pictures and english audio equipment. Maybe a bit more expensive as their competitors, but worth it.
