I came here for a weekend during Lantern Festival and had such a great time here. Most of the festival took part in and around China Town. There was a lot going on, so I can't really review how China Town is on a normal day. During the festival it was incredible with all the lights, vendors, and shows. There appeared to be a lot of tourist shops and restaurants lining the street on both sides. If it were not the festival, it looks like any other China Town I've seen around the world. I feel the food here is pretty authentic and regardless it is going to be a good time!

It is famous as one of the three major Chinatowns in Japan, but it felt unsatisfactory because the other two major Chinatowns are also very busy. Except during Lantern Festival, you can walk slowly around the whole place quickly. It is easy to stop by as there is a tram transfer station.

This is billed as (one of?) the largest Chinatowns in Japan but it is really not very big. You can easily take in the whole location in 30 minutes. There were some street food options but the place was pretty low key overall.

We stayed at the Candeo Shichi Hotel across the bridge and popped over to Chinatown for dinner. We found many little eateries open mid week, but not very busy. We had dinner at one which had gold serpents entwining the columns (Ryoshoro). We enjoyed the food. This Chinatown is different to other ones I have been to in the world - it is very clean and having it as a walking path makes walking around very easy. Definitely have dinner here somewhere during your stay and try the champon.

Well.. china town is not my thing.. but we are quite some days away from home and my child miss home food.. so china town is best bet to get something close enuff to fix their crave...

Actually the food here is not that bad, price is fair as well... Nagasaki does surprise me in many way...

If you have some time, just walk around who knows you find hidden treasure.

Alongside Chinatown in Yokohama and Kobe, this is the third Chinatown in Japan. This one is the smallest among the three. It has been around since 15 or 16 century when the Chinese traders first came to Nagasaki. They were only allowed to stay around the area and hence became the Chinatown.

The streets here are lined with restaurants and stores selling Chinese artifacts and confectionery. We were there on a weekday and it was extremely quiet and many shops were closed. If you are short of time in Nagasaki, I suggest to skip it.

With so may "Chinatowns" throughout the world it's hard to get excited when stumbling upon another one which I think many tourists in Nagasaki do given its location. That said, it was brightly decorated with yellow lanterns which I didn't expect and if you want you can get Champon and Saraudon which are main dishes in Nagasaki. I suppose that's one thing that makes this Chinatown a little different. I would recommend strolling around for 30 minutes if you are heading toward Grover Garden, to name one example, or even stopping to enjoy a good meal (I didn't have time to eat but the food looked good). But I wouldn't consider it a main destination.

Nagasaki Chinatown, also known as Shinchi Chinatown, is Japan's oldest chinatown. It was established as early as the 17th century, due to the fact that Nagasaki's port remained the country's only major port opened to Chinese trade during the era of isolation.

Over the centuries, the residents of Shinchi Chinatown have bestowed the city of Nagasaki with a Chinese flair not felt in any other of Japan's major cities.

Today, Nagasaki's chinatown is best known for its restaurants and their two most famous local noodle dishes, champon and sara udon.

Its worth an quick walk through and looks better at night with all the neon lights. Chinatown is literally the gateway to the Nagasaki shopping area.

The Nagasaki Electric Tram has two main lines that overlap near Chinatown. Operated by Nagasaki Electric Tramway, the tram lines provide easy access to most of the city's main attractions and run approximately every 5-8 minutes from 6:00 to 23:00. City wide free wifi available on board.

A station is conveniently just outside the cruise terminal. There is a tram ticket office in the cruise ship terminal where you can buy a very inexpensive day pass and get an easy to follow free map of the city and tramway system. For 500 yen for a full day or 160 yen per trip, There are a number of tram routes, all color coded on the map and the day pass is valid for all journeys on each route.

From the cruise ship terminal walk to the O-Urakaigandori Tram Station which is only a 5 minute walk. Passengers board the trams by the rear door and exit from the front door where the driver will check your ticket as you leave the tram. Note: work your way to the front before sitting down to make leaving the tram easier in busy times.

Take the green line tram north towards Hotarujaya. Go two stops and get off at the Tsukimachi Station. Walk one block southeast along the canal.

Transferring passengers can ask for a transfer ticket when exiting a tram in order to avoid paying twice when venturing further out into Nagasaki. Hand the transfer ticket to the driver of the second tram when exiting.

A typical Chinatown with restaurants serving Chinese food and touristy stuff to buy. During the festive seasons, it will be bright with lights and crowded with people.
