While Osaka is a hugely touristy city with crowds swamping into major attractions, this pleasant park is the perfect escape from urban bust. Amid modern skyscrapers comes a collection of lawns, fountain and unparalleled panorama of the city. Nakanoshima Park remains serene and peaceful all day.

Nakanoshima is a long river island in the Oo-kawa River of Central Osaka. From the Yodoyabashi district to the Tenjinbashi district is filled with much greenery and some parts are made into Nakanoshima Park. Accessing to the park is easy by subway or bus from the Minami (Nanba) district and by walking from the Kita (Umeda) district.
It is enjoyable to see Osaka’s modernizing process in the form of public buildings along the park. It includes the city hall, the central community hall, the city oriental ceramic museum, and a rose garden. The area might be too short for jogging, but just go around a few times the same route.
If you have a difficult time to find a public washroom, go to the lower floor of the central public hall (red brick building), it shouldn’t be difficult to find one there.

The park itself is nothing special. Located at the eastern end of Naka-no-shima, an island in the middle of a river, visiting it on a Sunday gave me a nice opportunity to watch Osaka residents at leisure. The park has several sections, including lawns and a rose garden, with views of office skyscrapers and elevated expressways all around. There was a constant hum of traffic noise (as to be expected), but you'll soon be able to ignore that.
People were just enjoying the green space on picnic mats and tents, playing badminton, practising yoga or kicking a ball around. Others were bicycling the pathways or rafting up and down the rivers.
There's a cafe with bathrooms in the park, near the rose garden.
I simply walked there from Osaka railway station and the Ohatsu-tenjin temple, but if you're coming from further and taking the metro, the nearest metro station is Kitahama station on the Sakaisuji Line. The park is just north of the station.
On the day that I visited, the sky was cloudy throughout, and at one point threatened to rain. My fall-back plan should it rain was to visit the Museum of Oriental Ceramics just west of the park on Nakanoshima island. In the end, it didn't rain so I didn't visit the museum, but it was good to have this Plan B in mind.

This Park looks like it would be very beautiful when the roses are in bloom. However, we made a special trip there via taxi in early-July, on the sole expectation of seeing beautiful roses, as we had just seen in full bloom in Tokyo at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, and there was nothing flowering... In fact, there were gardeners there who were clearly cutting off both flowers and buds and I assume preparing the garden for it's next 'scheduled' flowering after Spring. Rather annoying as it's clear there could easily have been many flowers in bloom in the Summer season, but the Park is prepared on a schedule so everything flowers at once. You should definitely check when the roses are in bloom before making a trip there, otherwise it's similar to viewing cherry trees in the off-season.

We walked through the park our first day in Japan, and we got lost in the large variety of roses and other flowers in the park. Most of the roses have signs in English detailing their names and origins. In Late May, everything was blooming. If you like gardening, then this is well worth an hour or more.

As I stayed several times in Crowne Plaza Osaka had opportunity to visit the park in several occasions. You can always have a nice waterside walk having a peaceful view. At night you can admire lightning and during the day a park in the middle of Osaka with a fantastic view. You will enjoy Cherry Blosson in March/April, lovely Rose Garden in April/May and it was also nice in October.

We were here in mid march when the rose bushes are just beginning to bud out. It was very neat and orderly but due to the time of year a little sparse -- I would love to go in late Spring, Summer or Autumn when I'm sure it's stunning.

Great little park area between 2 rivers. View the delightful rose garden & wander under the tress. Lots of picnic areas for a sit down or try the eateries. Always something going on from locals doing pilates/tai chi to dance groups or musicians

Pieceful and sunny Saturday morning, started from Umeda Hankyu Station and walked against the sun to the Island and Nakanoshima Park. Very nice walkway on the right side river bench - many fanny/clever sculptures, rose garden with hundreds of sorts and an enjoyable GARB week Cafe. Recommended!

Would anything be blooming in mid-February, or would it be to early? Thanks

Did anyone visit this garden in October? How was it?
If we go there in the second week of October, are there any flowers in bloom, please? Will there be any fall / autumn foliage to enjoy?
Thanks!!

Sorry for the delay in reply. Been in China. I visited this place in May and the flowers were in bloom. Not sure about October but you may be able to contact the park to find out more information

Hi! I am planning a trip in December 2016 to Osaka (somewhere 3rd week onwards). My upmost worry is the crowd. Will it be extremely crowded over the Christmas season?
Is it a Japanese school holiday season?
