Really beautiful view. Like everyone else says, it's best to come during sunset. The sky is gorgeous. If you come in the winter, come prepared with some warm clothes. The ticket to enter the observatory place is ¥1,500. They've got the little love lock fence where you can buy a lock and lock it to the fence, although I don't know how much they cost. They have a gift shop up there with some souvenirs andna lot of Japan themed goodies. They also have a cafe so you can make the most out of your money by chilling inside and enjoying the view.

Fantastic views are to be had from the top of the Umeda sky building. Unlike many other observatories, you can enjoy the views from indoors and outdoors. Great fun trying to pick out landmarks like the castle and where the airport is. Nice cafe as well. Would also be stunning after dark.

It’s definitely a great place to go if you want some good views of Osaka. Definitely worth the price of admission. Going during the day is great, but go in the evening for dope night views!

7Dec 2011 - around 5.25pm, 4 of us went up 173m to the Floating Garden. Upon entering the Floating Garden proper, we were ushered by people already there, to move on the path without being allowed to snap our photos. These people have their cameras setup on tripods. We are deemed to be blocking their way. If we want shots of that particular scenery, we have to pay them to do so for us! It is shocking. Why do the authorities allow such blatant touting when it destroys tourism utterly, not only for Umeda, but for Osaka and Japan in general. But this is not all. We had no choice but to move to the other end of the lookout whether it was understandably crowded. At 5.58pm, we went back to the area where there were cameras on tripod and tried to snap our photos. This time, the same Japanese girl, speaking English, literally shove us to the exit saying that filming is in progress and that we have to leave. I told her "Why wasn't we told before we bought our tickets? Why wasn't there any sign in English to tell us so?" She just ignored us. We left. Although I had pleasant memories of my 1st ever visit to Japan, this incident will forever haunt me from ever coming back to visit Japan ever! If tourists aren't welcomed... so be it.

GoogleMaps guided us on our walk from the Namba station to get to this Floating Garden tower. We entered for free using our one-day Osaka Amazing Pass. The tip from other Trip Advisors to go before sunset is a good one. We first waited in the highest indoor level (cafe level) to watch the sunset and see Osaka lighting up. But the west-facing lounges were all occupied, and then we realized it was too glary anyway and you couldnt see much facing the glare of the sun, so we occupied the north-facing barstools (seated after a long day of walking, what a relief!) and had the most comfortable awesome view of Osaka city with two rivers spanned by long bridges. There were less people here too. At nightfall (and after having been seated and rested) we moved up to the observatory for even more awesome views. The neon lighting highlighted our clothes and scarves which made for very pretty pictures. However it was sooooo cold we couldn't stay long outside. But could you do it the reverse way? I think if you go up to the open-air level first to watch the sunset, it will also be good except you have to be standing or walking around the deck, and if you go down to the cafe at nightfall you might miss the chance to see the "floating" lights that give this tower its name. Plus, when you go down to the cafe level indoors after the open deck views, there will be no more seats for sure.

Not too tall but architecturally unique in its own right. Go to the 3rd floor and take the elevator up the 37th floor to purchase your ticket. Didn't expect it but was a bit surprised with the scenic elevator that reminded me of going up the Eiffel tower. Another surprise was the scenic escalator to the 39th floor. Admittedly got a bit scared dangling up there for a few seconds but you get the hang of it. The open air observation deck afforded you a 360 panoramic view of the city. I made it a point to make it by sunset. Too bad it was a bit overcast but still got to see Osaka both at day and at night. Gld it wasn't crowded when I went. So where's the garden?

The building has an interesting architecture with two-level circular observation deck on top at 173 m high. The entrance fee is ¥700 but we paid for it with a coupon that comes with Osaka Unlimited Pass. The pass costs ¥2000 with many coupons for interesting attractions around the city.
The deck is accessed by two long escalators that seem to float in the air. Riding on it is an experience by itself. Osaka skyline in all directions can be seen from the deck. The top deck is not covered and we were lucky that the weather was nice when we were there. An enjoyable experience.

There is no subway station around, so you'll have to walk from the Umeda station (10-15 min). While doing that you won't spot the amazing architecture of this bldg (Umeda Sky building, the official name), as you will approach it from it's side, not front.
So, before entering and heading to the top, look up and step some 100 met backwards to see how modern and exceptional it is.
The view from the top, which is a big circular platform connecting two buildings of the Umeda Sky bldg is fantastic. You have a 360' outside view covering the whole Osaka area.

The Floating Garden observatory is included in the "Amazing Osaka Pass" which I highly recommend, great value for money.

It's quite a long walk from Umeda Station. In fact, you will probably get lost if you don't ask for direction. No signs posted. As English is not used widely, I'd suggest you ask for 'Sky Walk' rather than Floating Garden. I nearly gave up a couple of times.

I think it's overrated. The architecture outside is quite impressive and the escalator up to the ticket counter is a great experience. On hindsight, I wouldn't have bothered paying the 700Yen going into the observatory. Mostly, young people taking their girlfriends up there for coffee or hang around, There's really nothing much to see apart from the night light, which I can see from other buildings. But, if you must, pay to go into the observatory.

Amazing architectural design with great view from the observatory deck. Cpuples and buy a 'heart lock' to have their name printed on a padlock and securing it at a section in the observatory deck, much like the famous bridge in Paris.
Btw, this place is covered by the Osaka Amazing Pass otherwise I wouldn't waste 700yen just to see the night sky
