My daughter is a diehard Harry Potter fan. We have been to Universal Studios Singapore but no Harry Potter. Hence this trip to Osaka for Universal Studios Japan (USJ). We bought 1.5 days tickets and also Standard Express Passes for Day 2 only.
Our 2nd visit to USJ in 5 years and it's now my TOP-RANKED theme park ever! The addition of Harry Potter World, Minion Park, Jurassic Park's Flying Dinosaur have brought USJ to a whole new level. This theme park is so well thought out, efficient,...More
The best theme-park by far for me. I’d say better than USS. The crowd, however, were insane! Hence, advisable to purchase the express pass.. since we were there during winter, you can imagine how extremely freezing it was to wait for 2/3 hours in line.....More
Be prepared to arrive early if you did not get your ticket in advance. Pay for express pass if within your budget. You'll get more rides and have tome more time to spare. The highlight is Harry Potter. Souvenirs are expensive. Food portion quite small....More
We purchased the standard 4 ride express pass. The pass was useful for skipping the lines, however not all the rides had ridiculously long times, but others had 30+ min lines.
All the staff spoke English and a lot of the signs were in English,...More
We enjoyed the park very much and had a fun time. Even though there were long queues for many of the rides, the cold weather made the wait bearable.
I found the Harry Potter ride to be the best, even the queue was outrageously long....More

Universal Studios - Don't waste your time or money! (32 Replies)
Just returned from a cruise to Singapore. Kids have been excited for months about going to Universal Studios. Finally the day arrived, got to Universal Studios only to be greeted with a sign saying "booked out". Furious we stood in line for half an hour to see what was going on only to be told it is booked out for 3 MONTHS in advance - people book on the internet. After much discussion we were advised we MIGHT be able to get tickets if we ventured downstairs to some office. Found some men in...More

It's a shame you feel like that about Singapore in general. Its a fabulous place with lovely people and wonderful sights, please don't let one thing cloud it. We are going to Singapore in April 11 and we will be purchasing our tickets on line a few months ahead as advised by many on here. Best wishes Jo

Universal Studio or DisneySea (1 Replies)
Hi. I'm travelling with my thrill-seeker husband and 12-year old son to Japan in mid-October. We can't decide between Universal Studios in Osaka, and DisneySea in Tokyo. We went to Disneyland in Paris many years ago, and were not impressed. I would really appreciate any advice that will help us decide between Universal Studios and DisneySea. thanks a lot :-)

Between Disneyland and Universal Studio there is really no comparison - to me at least - not been to Osaka's but am comparing with the States. However, I must say that I've heard good things about Osaka's Universal Studio Not sure when you went to Disneyland Paris but it has undergone lots of improvement since the EuroDisney days. Bad choice for a first Disney I would say, if you went that long ago. Still, Tokyo's Disneyland is great. Not sure what you are searching for in order to be...More
