What we preferred at this museum was the ninja house. Basically, the name of the game is to find your way out of the house- defeating tricky doors, secret trapdoors and other sneaky ninja tricks. Not so easy actually, we had to scrath our heads in a few rooms and much to our shame even had to ask for help once from a maintenance guy ;-)

Don't come here if you're on a tight schedule ;-)

Closed in the winter (ninjas hibernate?), but great fun for people interested in ninjas.

This place was a lot cheaper than I expected at ¥500 for an adult. The best part of it is the ninja fun house, which can be a real challenge in some parts to get through, as you try to figure out where the hidden doors might be.

The obstacle course is a lot of fun for kids, and the museums could be of interest as well.

Don't go out of your way for this, but if you're in the area, it's worth a visit and 45-60 minutes of your time.

The display of the museum was dry and had no English. The best part was the trick house. Each room in the house had different exit. One was behind a painting. One was on the floor. One was a slide opposite to handles. It was fun trying to find our way out.

Wonderful trip in a mountain area full of woods. Both Ninja Museum and Ninja surprise house offered us good moments. Highly recommend it! The tower outside, activating earthquake movements while climbing stairs was very interesting. And the ninja surprise house....a worthwhile funny provocative experience...for adventurous ninja lovers!

Im not sure what I expected from a ninja house but my heart skipped a beat when I realised I had to find my way out and couldn't go back lol! There is lots of secret entrys and trap doors etc and we had fun figuring out the exit. Then we went over to the mueseums to look around which were well worth a look as well. The wobbly funhouse was again, unexpected but fun. Show your bus ticket pass for a discount

It was long drive from Tokyo, but worth it!
It is a big old school Japanese style trick house. It was not easy to get out, but had fun exploring all the rooms. My 6 years old son was so excited to opening hidden doors and stuff. I recommend for young children, teens, or even young couples and friends!

A highlight of any visit to Togakushi area. This museum is composed of several houses with exhibits (the one with ninja photos is great), ninja training circuits, a nice cafe, and a ninja house, which is just amazing! ;)

Secret doors with varying means of opening them, a hidden tilted room and mazes with sliding panels - each segment of the ninja house challenges your perception and your ability to think rationally, and also think outside the box. Took me about 20 minutes to get through (though I was making sure I hadn't missed anything).

The museum is less interesting, just a collection of artefacts with little explanation. There are better folk museums elsewhere in Japan (e.g. Hida-Takayama)

Trying to walk in a room where perception is off, hidden rooms and rooms apparently without doors. We had a ball exploring and the ice cream was great too!
