It was a last minute decision to visit here on our way to Niigata. We decided to visit only the upper shrine because we did not have a lot of time and the middle shrine was very crowded. It was hard to see a sign...More

Togakushi Shrine is actually divided into upper, middle, and lower shrines that are a pretty good distance away from one another. The Alpico bus has stops near the latter two, it the main upper shrine requires a 40 minute hike from the bus stop. Visitors...More

The Togakushi shrine is made up of three shrines - the lower shrine, mid-level and the upper shrine. For some odd reason, we kept driving until we reached the entrance to the upper shrine, skipping the lower 2. Paid parking is available near the entrance...More

Good day trip from Nagano; if the weather had been better when I was there - too cold to see anything much (lake was still frozen)

We went on April 29, which was the start of Golden Week. I think that is the reason it was super busy and there was a long, slow queue to get up to the shrine buildings. There is still snow for the last portion of...More

The hike leading up to this Shrine is beautiful and it is a nice location to visit. The Shrine itself can not be entered for Sacred reasons but it is still a worthy visit non the less. When we visited, it was under lots of...More

The pathway from the main road to Okusa Shrine was more than half an hour. The path was lined up with pine trees on both sides and all along it was scenic and peaceful. Do check the bus time table for return back to town.
