The pathway from the main road to Okusa Shrine was more than half an hour. The path was lined up with pine trees on both sides and all along it was scenic and peaceful. Do check the bus time table for return back to town.

After visiting the Ninja Museum, we walked along the forest pat till we got to the 4 temples. On the way we had Soba Tea Ice Cream and Green Bamboo Leaves Ice Cream, both were good, must try them!

One of the total 5 "Togakushi" shrines, Okusha is the farthest and need to walk on the pebbled path for 2km one way. Need to wear walking shoes and proper outfit.

Many reviews recommended to spend time walking towards the shrine. The path to the shrine was about 40 minutes one way. The first part of the trail was a normal one. When we reached the torii, the trail changed to pine trees in which was...More

Hiked from the lower shrine all the way to the top. I highly recommend taking the longer route from the middle shrine which goes to two lakes. Great reflections off the surrounding mountains. Take bus #70 from Shin-Hiroshima.

Such a great place and so peaceful. Early morning was great to beat the heat. The walks around the temples to Kagami lake were nice but would have been prettier in winter or fall. Sometimes the signage wasn’t great.

Forest bathing or tree hugging - plus the temptation of eating the best soba in the whole of Japan - We journeyed into the mountains of Nagano to pay homage to Togakushi shrine and its 300 plus giant cryptomeria trees that lined the 2km way...More

It takes around 50 minutes by bus from Nagano Station - look for the number 70 bus at stop number 7, just across the road. There’s a small ticket office where you can also pick up a map of the shrines. The hike from the...More

I wish I had had an entire day to spend here, looking for all the different shrines. Went in late March hoping for some early sakura blossoms and instead had a snow-covered hike! It was absolutely stunning. The trees are gigantic, the air is clear,...More

Try reaching all the Shrines . すべての神社に到達しよう Remember this is still a wild forest so respect and beware of the animals in it . これはまだ野生の森であることを忘れないでください。
