The pathway from the main road to Okusa Shrine was more than half an hour. The path was lined up with pine trees on both sides and all along it was scenic and peaceful. Do check the bus time table for return back to town.

Alight at Togakushi-Hokosha for the lower shrine (戸隠宝光社, 50 minutes, 1150 yen one way), Togakushi-Chusha for the middle shrine (戸隠中社, 60 minutes, 1250 yen one way) or Togakushi-Okushairiguchi for the upper shrine (戸隠奥社入口, 65 minutes, 1350 yen one way). There is roughly one bus per hour. Discounted round trip tickets are available between Nagano and Togakushi-Hokosha (2100 yen) and between Nagano and Togakushi-Chusha (2250 yen).
