Our walking tour of Kyoto was simply exceptional in every way. The sights, experience and commentary provided an enlightened view into the city's culture and history. We can't recommend Terin enough!

We had a truly wonderful experience working with Terin to plan the Kyoto portion of our honeymoon. We went on two trips with him: a half day trip around Arashiyama and a half day in Nara. Overall summary: He was easy to work with, offered great planning tips, and most importantly, was extremely insightful about the Kansai area and made our visit to the region SO much more meaningful than if we had done it by ourselves. A few more details about what made KyoTours special: Pre-trip: we reached out to Terin relatively close to our arrival date in Japan, and since our trip was during the peak tourist season, his calendar was starting to fill up. We really appreciated how Terin fit us into his busy schedule, but even more than that, how he spent time with us before the trip figuring out where we could best utilize him within our weeklong stay in Kyoto and how we should plan our "solo" days around the days with him. He also was super helpful in planning the tea ceremony (Kyugetsu), which I highly recommend for those who are interested in tea or even Japanese history and culture. During trip: As mentioned above, first and foremost is that Terin is a great guide. He is extremely knowledgeable about Japanese history, and was also great to talk to about present-day Japan. We also appreciated how Terin plans his itineraries to be able to be easily adjusted on the fly as certain sites or stores piqued our interests and we wanted to spend more time at them. Terin was also very helpful in thinking through the logistics so that we could maximize the second half of the day after our Arashiyama/Nara tours based on hotel location, lunch plans, transit considerations, etc. Post-tour: We had several days left in Japan after our two tours, including stops in Hiroshima/Miyajima, Osaka, and Tokyo, and Terin was a great resource for figuring out how to plan those days, key sites to see (and sites to skip!), where to eat, etc. His advice made a big difference in our enjoyment and fulfillment from those stops. All in all, couldn't be happier with my decision to use KyoTours on our special trip. Thanks for everything!

My husband and I were fortunate enough to have two excursions with Terin during our stay in Kyoto — Arashiyama Backroads and Half-Day Kyoto Highlights — and both were fantastic. Knowledgeable, kind and personable, Terin took us to see some amazing lesser-known sites as well as the more famous ones during our tours which ensured a delightful range of unique experiences during our visit. Simply the best!

Thanks for your review! On our two half day tours, we saw the best that the city had to offer and avoided the hordes of tourists that now plague Kyoto. Finding a balance between popular spots and hidden gems is important, and I'm glad that you enjoyed the itineraries that I've perfected over years of touring with more than a thousand guests. Hope you can visit again soon!

Terin was an informative and thoughtful guide, and showed us sights we never would have seen without booking his tour, which were incredible. We thoroughly enjoyed all our discussions with him. When we saw the horrendous crowds at Arashiyama, we were so thankful we got to see amazing places most tourists don't venture to. I would absolutely recommend a tour with Terin to make the most of Kyoto.

Thanks for your review! You're absolutely right about the "horrendous crowds" in Arashiiyama nowadays, but I aim to take guests to other spots nearby so that we can enjoy some peace and quiet in lesser-known areas. The Arashiyama Backroads Tour is one of my best itineraries, and I'm pleased that you enjoyed it. Thanks!

Terin is deeply informed on the intricacies of Japanese history, culture, and life in Kyoto. We spent an entire day with him, having detailed conversations growing to understand Japan's unique history and were appreciative of his willingness to engage with our questions so that we could be conscientious travelers. Terin also showed us many sites in Kyoto that were not on the usual tourist route, which we really appreciated (and intended to book - this is part of the reason we sought out Terin's tour). We emerged from our day with him more feeling as though we had a deeper understanding of Japan and incredibly thankful that he had gone above and beyond to make us feel welcome in his adopted country!

Thanks for your review! I always try hard to give guests the true insider info and deep cultural background about the places we visit, and I'm happy to hear that you appreciated that. I've put years of research into this, and I love when guests ask tough questions! Glad you enjoyed our time together, and I hope you can come visit Kyoto again in the future.
