About
Shibori tie-dye's concave-convex characteristics achieve unique and even sometimes daring designs and form a fusion of fashion and art - a brand-new "Wearable Art." With the hope of offering opportunities for more people to appreciate and enjoy the exquisite beauty of Shibori tie-dye, our challenge for the next centenary is to present new "Wearable Art" items that will make the wearer an art piece him/herself.

Neighborhood: City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

We made a brief visit to Katayama Bunzaburo boutique on Takoyakushi Dori during our visit to Kyoto. We were glad we made this visit. In a relatively small storefront, there are literally hundreds of beautiful shibori (traditional tie dye method) hand dyed objects of various sizes and shapes, in a variety of fabrics but mostly silk. It was a very approachable store with a very friendly salesperson who was more than happy to show us what she had in the store. Most items are relatively pricey, but we were able to find something reasonably priced for a wedding gift.

This is a treasure, not to be missed for those who appreciate original, gorgeous creations. I've never seen anything else like it. Be sure to store these "curled up" as hanging them up may stretch them over time.

Stopped in during my business trip to Kyoto, to find some scarves as gifts for my ladies. Wasn't familiar with shibori, until my textile-savvy spouse thoughtfully introduced me to it before my trip. Think ultra-sophisticated tie-dye. I can't claim to be an expert, but if you enjoy high-end and unique textiles, then this shop is well-worth looking into. Not a lot of english spoken, but the staff were very warm and accommodating. I was so glad that I stopped in, as were the scarf recipients!

I would recommend hiring pocket wifi or downloading maps.me to help get around, English here is not great, but this is an amazing place to visit. The golden palace is a must!

Hi, I was fortunate enough to visit this store. I bought 3 smallish scarfs. Yesterday I washed one by hand. I curled it up in a towel and it dried. This morning all the points were gone? How do you care for these scarfs? What can I do now to restore this scarf?
Please, I love this scarf but it doesn't have the same appeal without the points. Teri Fischer
