We made a brief visit to Katayama Bunzaburo boutique on Takoyakushi Dori during our visit to Kyoto. We were glad we made this visit. In a relatively small storefront, there are literally hundreds of beautiful shibori (traditional tie dye method) hand dyed objects of various sizes and shapes, in a variety of fabrics but mostly silk. It was a very approachable store with a very friendly salesperson who was more than happy to show us what she had in the store. This is a treasure, not to be missed for those who appreciate original, gorgeous creations. I've never seen anything else like it. Be sure to store these "curled up" as hanging them up may stretch them over time.

Stopped in during my business trip to Kyoto, to find some scarves as gifts for my ladies. Wasn't familiar with shibori, until my textile-savvy spouse thoughtfully introduced me to it before my trip. Think ultra-sophisticated tie-dye. I can't claim to be an expert, but if you enjoy high-end and unique textiles, then this shop is well-worth looking into.
