Noru has the planned tours, but in this case I wanted something more challenging since I am a cyclist in training. Ross from Noru gave me a private ride tour in the narrow, curvy, hilly roads outside of Kyoto.

I contacted Noru by email to ask that I wanted something different. They were happy to accommodate. Ross was a great ride partner. The ride was exactly as I asked for!

What a great company!

Note my review may not directly apply to their set bike tours, but it does apply to the professionalism of the company and how well they operate and accommodate.

Hi Alan, thank you so much for this kind review. It was my pleasure guiding you through our local mountains. Always good times guiding like-minded fellow cyclists through our Kyoto backyard of world class road biking routes. When you are back in Kyoto please shoot me mail, there is so much more to see!

Kyoto is a perfect city to cycle around and the e-bikes made it easier and so much fun. The guide was amazing and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend doing the Nory secret e-bike tour on day 1 or day 2 of your Kyoto trip. It will set you up with some great background knowledge for the rest of your temple exploring trip.
Also they introduced us to the best mochi ever.

What a GREAT tour! We booked a private tour for our family of four as we wanted to travel a bit further and see specific things. Sean was our guide and did a fabulous job adjusting the pace (we were fairly quick) and explaining the city and the sites. Mike, another guide, joined us to learn one of the routes and was also a wealth of information. We can't recommend it enough!

Noru’s Secret Kyoto E-Bike tour was recommended by a friend. It did not disappoint. We were expecting a fun afternoon of cruising through the city, but our group was treated to so much more. The E-Bikes did serve as an efficient, convenient, and fun way to explore the city, but the best part of the tour was the cultural lesson given at each of the many stops. Yuta, our very knowledgeable guide, detailed the historical and cultural significance of each site/activity. My family appreciated Yuta’s remarkable knowledge and enthusiasm, as well as his warm and humble nature. Yuta and the Noru Kyoto experience were the highlight of our trip to Kyoto.

A brilliant, fun tour into the heart - and backstreets - of mystical Kyoto. On our bikes we travelled to a breathtaking Zen garden. We did some meditation practice guided by a local monk, and dined on sweet mochi. Our brilliant guide Henry introduced us to beautiful temples and shrines, helping us to understand the richness of Kyoto traditions. This tour was perfectly pitched, it was a blast, we loved every minute, as did our teenage children.

An excellent experience biking around Kyoto. Sean ensured we were familiar with the bikes before we left, clear instructions on where and how far we were going and of course, excellent historical and local knowledge. Felt totally safe and an e-bike made light work! Wish we had done this first day on our Kyoto trip!

It was an informative, engaging tour. The ebikes are easy to use and makes going uphill a breeze. The reason for the average rating is the guides's knowledge (or lack thereof) and the routes. They certainly know a lot about Kyoto but were sometimes dismissive when questions were asked. They are incorrect about a few facts, like the upper level of the Golden Pavilion doesn't have Buddha's remains but rather, relics of Buddha. They demonstrated omikuji, Japanese fortune slips, but left out the crucial part: receiving your fortune. As for the rides, there were rough streets. Not cobblestone but stone pavement. Our group survived, a few were already cyclists, but we didn't expect it. I would not recommend this tour if you're expecting smooth pavement.

Our guide Yuta was amazing! He is very knowledgeable with every shrine and temple we went to, we were lucky enough to be the only people on our tour which made it very special. Yuta looked after us and was so good at what he does! The bikes were great and comfortable even myself being 6”8 I had no issues.
Overall amazing morning and highly recommend to everyone! Yutas English was amazing and made for a wonderful day!

The owner Ross was an amazing guide and it was the highlight of our trip to Kyoto. His local knowledge of the culture and customs made the tour even more enjoyable.
The afternoon tea stop was a local delicacy and we were very lucky to have experienced it.
We only wished the bike tour went for longer so we could experience more.
We would highly recommend this bike tour to anyone visiting Kyoto.
