Went as few friends. Great instructors per couple of 3 members. Japanese speaking but not very good english. Find it by the large pagoda. Reserve a time and have some fun with pottery. They will help with all the steps, and even paint the articles youve made. But that is sent to you about a month later to a address in japan, not sure out of japan. Aprons and wash facilities are provided. Id recommend it if you have plenty of spare time in kyoto and fancy something different . The pottery class for about 3,500 yen each lasts about 30 min.

Tō-ji is a Buddhist temple of the Shingon sect in Kyoto, Japan. It once had a partner, Sai-ji and, together, they stood alongside the Rashomon, gate to the Heian capital. It was formerly known as Kyō-ō-gokoku-ji which indicates that it previously functioned as a temple providing protection for the nation. I have always wanted to travel to Kyoto even the name feels you with excitement, my son and I went in the night, it was peaceful, and had a feeling of so many secrets, haunting, moody and just amazing, here are some photos of our exploring the streets of closed shutters, and at the same time just an incredible experiance.

Kiyomizu temple was initially conIstructed in the 8th century. Through the centuries the its spring water has had the reputation of having the power to grant health and longevity to those that drink it. Needless to say drinking the water and purchasing the amulets and fortunes are popular with the thousands that flock to visit. Despite the fact that the main section of the Temple is being repaired it is still a fascinating site. The massive structure built up against a hillside is an architectural marvel. The other buildings that make up the complex still provide ample colour and interest. The main street leading to the site of course provides ample opportunity for the tourist to purchase souvenirs at all price levels

One instructor was good at teaching in English, and all of us had great fun! They have either rokuro pottery (pottery wheal) or pottery painting, and we chose rokuro even we can’t yet to paint on it because it’s too wet! Made an appointment from Kyoto station a day before, recommended by Kyoto tourist information center and had great time! Just in case you don’t have a Japanese mobile phone, there are many public phones available in Kyoto station, but I suggest giving a message at least a week before, to give them an allowance. No reservation fee asked anyway. It will take around 2 months for them to finish it up and ship it to us, but worth the try as part of our Kyoto day trip (well, nothing wrong to visit famous temples and historical places though), it takes just less than 2 hours, and it was warm inside while it was so cold outside. Location is near Kiyomizu temple which structure is known to have built without using nails. So combining poetry experience while interacting with local Japanese is a good combination, specially if you are traveling with teens who are overwhelmed by too many temples. It takes an hour or so, but since they still need to dry it, go under many process until finally done, you are asked to choose a color out of 5 colors they offer (you could see the sample), and write your shipping address, so they’ll do everything and ship it to you after done, a month or two later. I’m not sure if they could ship it overseas, so better ask them beforehand.

Beautiful - a highlight of Kyoto! Be aware, it can get very busy, so I'd advise getting there early. Quite a walk, but worth doing. Great fun and amazing photo opportunities.
