Right off the river my brother and I found this bar. It was quite small but the staff and the sake were very good and reasonably priced. No cover charge either.

We went to just do some sake tasting and the young man inside that tended to us was so sweet and helpful. He really made it a pleasant experience. Not sure I leaned much about sake but a nice way to get a drink.

The 1000 yen tasting sake menu featured four sake samples, three of which were bad, and one of which was OK. Cheap, yes, but the price reflected the quality. The space is a bit dingy, although the service was great.

Though small by comparison, Pontocho is one of Kyoto's
most spirited and memorable neighborhoods. A narrow
street straddling the Kamogawa River, it is Kyoto's
