Our special exhibition "An intimate lamplit gathering of tea kettles" runs from Sept. 16 to Dec. 16 closed Mondays An intimate lamplit gathering of tea kettles Autumn evenings are wonderful, and even more special in the tearoom. In the afterglow of dusk, the senses shift away from sight. Flowers fade behind their fragrance, patterns on teabowls and kimonos blur into shadows, breezes and insects whisper closer. The world of colour becomes a formless realm of sound. By flickering lamplight, the tearoom becomes a monochrome theatre of sound where the kettle plays a leading role. In keeping with the season, we display a selection of period tea kettles best appreciated by lamplight, as well as a tearoom arrayed with utensils for a yobanashi night gathering. We hope you will come enjoy the twilit refinements of this autumnal magic.

細い道に面したわかりにくい場所にありますが、入り口はわかりにくいが中は広いという京都らしい感じの建物です。また茶釜の美術館というのも京都らしいです。上の階の茶室とかも興味深かったです。

前回来た時にお休みだったので、今回再度訪ねました。三条釜座に残る大西家、400年の歴史を垣間見ることができました。3階が展示室、7階が茶室の展示で、のんびり過ごせますが、お道具保護のためか暖房が効いていず、中でもコートは脱げませんでした。
入場料は900円です。
別料金でお亭茶が楽しめます。

この辺りの町名も釜が付くぐらい、昔はこの周辺はお茶を点てる時に使う茶釜を作られていたそうです。それもあってか、こちらの美術館の展示品は全て茶釜でした。こんなに沢山の茶釜を見たのは生まれて初めてちゃうかな～人も少なく静かな美術館でした。

調べ方が悪かったのかもしれませんが、公式HPに月曜定休と書かれていたので金曜日に行ったところ、次の展示の用意で3月までお休みだそうでした。いつもやっているわけではないようです。電話してから行った方が良いですね。

＜茶の湯の釜／金属工芸・鋳造＞
日本最高峰の伝統文化の内、『金属工芸』は、
「鋳造」
「鍛造」
「彫金」
など、各種に分かれますが、
その内「鋳造」は、マグマのような高温で鉄を溶かして作ります。
そのため、工房は「火の粉」が飛び、「鉄の高温液体」が間違ってかかると、指が溶けてなくなるなど、
非常に危険で、神聖な場所でもあり、通常見学は不可能です。
しかし、こちらの美術館では、１つ１つの釜を、何か月もかかって
大変苦労して制作される様子を、丁寧な動画で勉強できます。（約1時間）
それによって「釜の扱い方」がわかり
御苦労を知って「釜に敬意を払って、大切に使う」気持ちも湧きました。
茶の湯や、金属工芸に関わる方なら、必ず知っておかないと恥ずかしい、貴重な内容です。
我々は、この動画によって、短時間で「釜制作の概略」を勉強できました。
本来なら、美大など学校に何年も通って実際に作って、初めてわかる知見です。

＜茶の釜は、金融資産にも！？＞
また、釜は、鉄で割れにくいので、年代のはっきりしている鋳造は1352年の物も、700年間残っています。
高くても、「本物の良い釜」を１つ持っていれば、後で売る事も出来るし
子や孫、子孫が困らないのですが
釜の「良し悪し」や、「本物かどうか」を判断する時、自分の目利きが重要です！
その見識眼を鍛えるのは、本物をたくさん見て
「釜肌」
「鐶付」
「口立ち上がり」
「摘み」
「うぶ底」
など、見極める訓練が必須です。
こちらは千家「表千家」「裏千家」「武者小路千家」ほか、お家元様方の御用達であり
「現存日本最古の釜師さん」 ですが
その御本人さんの美術館ですので、本物しかない！！（笑）
ネットで売られている釜が、偽物ばかりの今、安心して勉強できました。

利休さんも、「（良い） 釜が、１つあれば、茶は出来る・・・」とか、おしゃっている。
小さな茶道具は、季節によって頻繁に変えますが
釜は最低１つや、2種でも、一生茶会が出来ます。
失敗しない「お買い物」の為にも、しっかり勉強したかった時に伺えて、本当に良かったです。
何しろ、歴史的な「天明釜」も「芦屋釜」も、京都のセレブ貴族や茶人のニーズに合わせて作っていたので
展示を見て、三条は、京釜の発祥地！
三条の釜師さんは、防火スプレーを使わずに修理する！ 本物だ！と、わかりました。

美術館の表のしつらえは
・京町屋 の伝統的な建築スタイルで「犬やらい」があり
祝儀などには
・表に「家紋入りの幕」がかかって、日本有数の「旧家」である事を証明しています。
★バリアフリー：
入り口は、２Fにあり、おみ足のお悪い方は、お声をかけられた方が良いです。 館内はEVがあります。
★お子様向け：
お子様向けのイベントも、時々されています。 （要確認）
★茶会：
釜を感じる体験茶会は、非常に人気なので、早目に申し込む必要があります。
初心者でもOKですが、着物で伺われると、気後れせずにすむので、お勧めです。
★今回は、春に茶道部の新入部員へ工芸文化を伝えるのに、釜肌を覚えるため
1人で伺って、朝から数時間、精神を集中させ、釜をじっくり見て、眼の訓練をしました。
釜から真剣さが伝わり、「参禅しているようだなぁ」とも、感じました。
複数並んでいるので、作者の個性や「作り方」がわかって、
充実して、楽しかったです！
長くなりましたが、ご参考になれば幸いです。

大西静右衞門美術館は京都駅から地下鉄で烏丸御池まで（210円）
駅から徒歩７分
入館料は800円
さすが、千家十職ということで歴史の重みが違うなーという印象でした
内部の作品展示は撮影不可でしたので外観だけの写真です
２階の展示室には釜の制作過程のビデオが流されていました
60分と長くてナレーションもない記録ですが、面白くて最後まで見てしまいました
最上階にある、茶室はガラス越しで見学出来ます
素晴らしい年代物の道具が並んでいました

以前は釜師が腕を振るった集落をなしていた釜座町。以前は60件あった職工さんも、わずか二軒となりました。「燈火に親しむ茶の湯釜」秋季企画展が催されており、訪れました。釜座三条にある、静謐な茶室や名工の作品に触れることができます。釜は人肌のように潤いとつややかさがあり、心に凛とした光をあててくれます。

この美術館は、茶釜がメインの大変珍しい美術館です。但し入場料が900円と高いのと展示物が少し少ないのが難点です。

茶釜がメインの美術館です。現代の新しいものから、歴史的価値のある古いものまで、これだけ茶釜をまとまって拝見したことがなかったのでとても興味深かったです。この付近は釜座町という地名が残り、この大西家以外にも釜師の看板を掲げる建物がありました。なお内部の写真撮影は禁止です。

烏丸通を超えて三条通を西に進むと通りの狭くなり、"御釜師"の看板が目印になりました。その手前には、やや消えかかっているものの高札型説明板があり、"三條釜座"の説明となっていました。美術館自体の施設の外観は旧家風で周囲に溶け込んでいました。茶の湯釜が展示の中心となっている特殊な美術館と云えそうでした。
