We were really looking forward to this as one of the highlights of our stay in Kyoto. The premises look amazing, all the old print rolls on the walls etc.It was freezing cold, he lit a paraffin stove near us, but only when we came in. I had to keep my coat on the whole time.

Response from roketsu, オーナー at Roketsu Dyeing Studio Yamamoto
Responded Mar 19, 2020
I am very sorry that you did not enjoy the experience of our studio. Originally, the interior of the dyeing factory's workshop is extremely cold in winter because heating is not effective due to the structure, which is long and slender and has a high ceiling to prevent temperature changes. I am sorry that we cannot provide a comfortable environment. There is no restriction on the experience time, so there is no problem even if you use the time to select the sketch. I just hope that you can spend a lot of meaningful time in the process of drawing with a wax. Therefore, those who have no problem drawing have less practice. My mother is a veteran craftsman. My mother teaches in her own way, though she can hardly speak English. (Smiles and simple English gestures) My mother's teaching is very popular with her, so I leave her most of the guidance to her. I'm sorry if I felt uncomfortable due to lack of communication. The experience of this studio is not a classroom that teaches dyeing in earnest, but a workshop where you can easily experience roketsu dyeing. Therefore, customers who want a full-fledged experience may not be satisfied. I didn't mean to differentiate the experience depending on the number of people, but I'm sorry if it felt like that. Thank you for your valuable opinion We will continue to do our best to satisfy our customers.

I lived in Kyoto for a year and brought/recommended multiple people to this experience. They all loved it! The owners are kind and hilarious, and by the end (no matter your artistic prowess) every person always has a beautiful final product. Can't recommend strongly enough! :)

This was a very enjoyable experience and it was very interesting to see how this art form is done. I chose a tote bag as my project and added an image to each side as shown by my teacher. I proudly carry this bag around on my travels. Thank you

although it was a long bus ride we were **thoroughly ** delighted with our experience!!! I particularly liked that alongside the "owner" worked his elderly "grandmother" gently prodding us in the right direction as we worked. The workshop is atmospheric. It was worth it just to

I had so much fun in this class. I attended at 10 AM and was given a few choices on what I want to work on. You can choose small handkerchiefs to tote bags to mini curtains etc. The items vary in prices. The teacher was excellent and spoke fluent English. He was very nice and
