Komyoin is a small temple with an absolutely beautiful dry garden. I was one of only three visitors when I visited. There was plenty of room on the sunny temple verandahs to sit and look at the garden for a while. It is very close...More

As many others commenting we were brought here by a private English speaking guide. It is a small temple with very few if any people visiting, which makes it a good place for a guide to explain Buddhism, zen rock garden, structure of traditional Japanese...More

Our guide took us here as we asked to go somewhere quiet and peaceful. That's certainly what we got. For a 300Y donation we spent 30 peaceful minutes in beautiful surroundings, enjoying the moss gardens framed perfectly by Shoji. Well worth seeing as a contrast...More

Located not too far from Fushimi Inari Shrine this little temple is worth the visit for something a little smaller and a lot more peaceful then all the other tourist filled temples in Kyoto. A well planned temple layout surrounds a rock garden framed perfectly...More

Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi
Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist
attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens,
temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for
strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine
itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the
mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers,
picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the
