We were recommended this tour by friends who did a Samarai Joe tour a few years ago, and it did not disappoint. It was a unique and quirky tour that visited some artisan retailers and food establishments that we would never have otherwise experienced. All the while being escorted by the charismatic and amazingly agile 91 year old Samarai Joe. The sword wielding demonstration with audience participation was a highlight and, I’m sure, would not be found on any other tour. The esteem with which Joe is held within the places we visited was obvious and we feel honoured to have been given the insights of Kyoto my a man who has a living memory of WWII.

We recently had the pleasure of going on a 6 hour jam-packed walking tour with the spry Samurai Joe Okada. This man is a legend. Not only did he share a wealth of knowledge about Japan and Japanese culture. We also got to partake in sake, authentic snacks, visited local Kyoto antique dealers, walked the inner gardens of Kyoto's Imperial Palace and more. I strongly recommend his tour to my friends and clients since it was a memorable experience for myself and my husband.Thank you Samurai Joe - you are exceptional.

We spend the day doing a bus tour and walking the area visiting several sites and a sake museum. This 90+ year old daily sake drinker kept us entertained, even with a sword samurai life demonstration at the end of the tour.

I extremely enjoyed my morning with Samurai Joe walking around parts of Kyoto and learning some interesting facts and history about the place. He brought us into traditional shops like an antique shop and a bakery and let us sample some of the things the shops had to offer. He did a sword demonstration for us which you never get the opportunity to experience anywhere else. The last stop of the tour was to the imperial palace and then to lunch. Lunch is included in this tour however if you are not a sushi lover I would recommend bringing your own lunch. The walking tour is on every Saturday morning for 5 hours and costs 4,000 yen per person which you hand to him on the day. It is the highlight of my whole holiday. I extremely recommend it.

We had the pleasure of a private tour with Samurai Joe, referred to us from a friend who also had a great time with him during a family visit. Joe is wonderful and kind, has a fantastic sense of humor and is a perfect guide. He shared hidden treasures of his city and we were very sad to have to leave him at the end of the day. My older teen daughters almost cried! Highly recommend reserving Samurai Joe if you want a special day in Kyoto!
