The tour moved along at a good pace and didn't feel rushed at all. The group had time to grab meat wrapped rice on a stick and a racoon dog statue. During our walk Tomo discussed things we came across (hatsumode, ebisu statue, etc.). We also visited the fushimi inari shrine. I highly recommend this tour.

My partner and I took the morning Kyoto cycling tour (3hrs approx) with Tomoko. It was one of the best tours we've been on. It was only myself and my partner on the tour so it felt more private. We got to see more places and our tour guide Tomoko was fantastic. She was so kind and helpful. She made... More

Terin was a terrific guide! He was so knowledgeable about Kyoto, the temples and shrines, and the life of a Geisha. We greatly enjoyed all the information he had to share with us and we left the tour feeling a lot more informed about Kyoto. If you're looking to learn more about Kyoto, book a tour with Terin! Definitely worth... More

Guide Rebecca taught me so much about about Japanese Shintoism and Buddhism, then directed me to a great Mexican restaurant in Gion. Thanks to her, I learned about Japan's spiritual and geisha culture. Do not tour Fushimi Inari shrine without her! Worth double the price.

I ended up on a 1/2 day tour of Kyoto as a private tour. No one else showed up. Guillemin Willing, my guide, was great!! I got to go at my own pace which included a lot of photography. Great explanations of the history of the shrines, geishas, and the foliage was spectacular!!! Guillemin even spotted a Geisha in a... More

Good to learn more about the culture from a knowledgeable guide. The group was small, thankfully, and the guide was soft spoken and respected everyones wishes for tanking photographs and wandering off a bit. A very relaxed experience.

Enjoyed seeing some sights around Kyoto and visiting Gion (sadly no maiko or geisha were seen). 3.5 hour walking tour was actually not too draining on my legs as we also caught a train and went at a casual pace. It was a nice small group and our English speaking guide, who was actually a French man living in Japan,... More

Kyoto has countless sightseeing opportunities and not all are close to each other. The bike tour is a great way to cover a whole area or several sights in a short span of time. Ideal in case you are time-constrained or simply tired of walking around. Be sure to ask questions, as being with a guide gives you access to... More

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
