The tour takes in a Buddhist temple with a stunning rock garden, the famous Inari Shinto shrine and Gion, the geisha district. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and learned masses. Pepijn, our guide, was excellent, very informative and even bought us a special Kyoto sweet. Very well thought out introduction to Japanese culture. Highly recommended. If you are thinking of... The bike tour was an amazing way to see the beautiful city of Kyoto. Our English speaking tour guide Yumi was very friendly and made the tour very enjoyable with her up-beat personality and enthusiasm! I would definitely do it again and recommend it to all visitors!!

I highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants a different perspective of Kyoto as it explores both traditional Kyoto and modern Kyoto at night. As it was at night we could see usually crowded shrines and laneways lit up and basically to our selves. We were lucky enough to be the only ones on the tour and had the... More

Travelling through Kyoto on bike is a entirely different experience than what you could get through walking. It was very enjoyable and educational.

Great way to see some sights of Kyoto and gain some extra insight. Really enjoyed cycling down the Philosophers Path. Pepyn was great.

There's no other way to experience Kyoto than biking in this haven for cyclists and this tour served as a perfect introduction. Pepijn is a knowledgeable and attentive guide and chose a great route, which clocked about 18km (more than advertised). Not particularly strenuous for an experienced cyclist and manageable for the novices on the same tour. Highly recommended.

Joined Urban Adventures for their wonderful "lanes and lanterns" walking tour ... really cool way to explore the Gion and surrounding historical districts after dark. We visited numerous Shinto shrines, learned about the Geisha culture, and explored beautiful lantern-lit back alleys, with stops for soy milk tea and obanyaki (savory Japanese stuffed pancakes). Even though it was snowy and cold,... More

Luv'd this tour and great for families. Kyoto is suited to bike riding, followed paths and when on road not much traffic. And of course Kyoto had amazing places to visit

We had the best time on this tour, Risa was delightful and full of really interesting information. We saw all sorts of things including a Sumo Wrestler waiting for the Bus!

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
