Rebecca was a amazing tour guide. She had a broad range of knowledge and knew lots of things. We were late but we joined them at a temple then went to Fushimi-Inari shine. We then went to the Gion area and toured around there. We ended at a place that was holding a dance that night so everybody got tickets... More

Out guide was very informative and knowlegable. The explanantions of the locations helped us understand Japanese culture a little more. I think that we were able to see a lot in 3 hours which would have taken a lot longer on our own, and probably missed the meaning of the locations. This was one of the best short tours we... More

Had a great time with Takaaki today, he was very informative & we learnt lots about Kyoto & the Japanese religions. Our trip was supposed be for 3.5 hrs, but lasted at least 4.5 hrs. The one thing I would say, is that we would have preferred more time in the Gion district, so we could see & soak up... More

Takaaki's tour was the perfect way to spend our first morning in Kyoto. We thoroughly enjoyed our ride along the back streets and the river, and learnt a lot from Takaaki about the city's history and about the shrines and temples.

We experienced an enjoyable walking tour of Kyoto (including a couple of train rides) with Urban Adventures, covering a couple of key attractions of this place - namely the Tofuku-ji temple with its remarkable zen garden and Fushimi Inari shrine with its multitude of orange hued torii gates. A walk in the Gion district was also quite a nice experience.... More

Takaaki was a good guide who took our group to 3 destinations -Tofukugi temple, the fushimi inari shrine with all its tori gates and finally the Gion area. It is definitely worth having a guide who can provide history and cultural understanding of places which we are all keen to see but often know little about. Takaaki speaks excellent English... More

I really loved the small group walking tour! Our guide was Lulu, and she was so wonderful and well informed! She is very sweet and personal and knew a lot about everywhere we went. The walk is interesting and it was a great way for me to start my trip to Kyoto. I even went back to Furishima-Inari taisha to... More

Our guide was Takaaki and he was so friendly and very informative. He answered our questions about the Shrines and Temples so we could understand better the different in culture and religion. I recommend this tour as you see a lot from a bike. We saw different parts of Kyoto and some back streets that only in a bike you... More

Loved the guided tour through the Gion neighbourhood and to a few temples. The guide was great with lots of local knowledge and was happy to answer all kinds of questions. Definitely would do it again!

This small group tour (which works incredibly well) allowed us to see the highlights of Kyoto as well as provide great information. The amount of time allotted was good - not too little/not too much. Tomo was very gracious, knowledgeable, fun to be around and accommodating. She was personable and made you feel very comfortable.

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
