Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko" in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners, Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the streets on their way to and from work, where they fan dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion lights up at night, when the ancient-looking streets glow with lanterns along the river, where weeping willows catch the starlight and the air is warmed with conversation. Groups pass through to populate the restaurants and bars along the riverfront, but Gion still manages to be a mostly quiet district, due in large part to limited automotive traffic through many of its streets. Gion is a wonderful place to indulge in Kyoto's local and customary cuisines, and is best enjoyed after dark.

There were seven permanent playhouses near Shijō Kawabata (Shijōbashi Higashizume) at the end of the Edo period.
Of these, Kitaza and Minamiza remained, but in 1893 (Meiji 26) Kitaza was abolished and demolished due to the expansion of Shijo-dori Street. Today, only the Minamiza remains. Здание театра Китаза находится практически в центре современного Киото. Сейчас театр здесь не функционирует, а с 1615 года более четырех веков здесь был один из семи официально разрешенных властями театр кобуки. Сейчас об этом напоминает лишь украшение на крыше, называемое "низа". Это, собственно, все, что мне удалось узнать. Ну а кроме прошедшей славной истории здание ничем не выделяется среди прочих.

芝居小屋跡地と云うよりも「訴訟沙汰」で有名になった場所です

昔は現在の南座同様、芝居小屋があったとされる「跡」です。名残りは屋上の塔屋の造りくらいかな。下は八ツ橋屋さんのお店です。お騒がせな店で最近も創業時期にかかる他店との諍いが裁判沙汰にまでなって・・・地元では有名な話です。八つ橋を食べたり買ったりするのに、いつ出来た店か？なんて全く選別の一要素にもならないのに、裁判で争うなどは論外。尤も、見識ある裁判官の判決で訴訟は完敗しましたが。江戸時代に７か所、明治に２か所になって、今は四条通りを隔てた南座一か所だけになってしまったと云う昔の芝居小屋の跡地に建つ建物でした。ビルの玄関口にもそれなりの駒札が掲示されています。

四条大橋から近いところにあります。四条河原での興行が許可された7か所の常設芝居小屋の一つです。跡地は北座ビルとして一階は井筒八ッ橋本舗の本店があるのですぐわかります。建物跡があるわけでもないので、それほど見ごたえはないです。

昔の芝居小屋の跡

江戸時代に７つくらいあった芝居小屋の跡地で、いまは、井筒八つ橋さんのお店の店構えで芝居小屋の雰囲気がよくわかります。

江戸時代には常設芝居小屋は７か所有ったものが、明治初めには北座と南座２か所に、現在は南座１か所だけとなりました。現代からは想像出来ない場所に有ります。

北座は昔、南座のちょうど北に（四条通りをはさんで）ありました。現在は碑だけ残っています。跡地には井筒八つ橋の大きなお店が建っています。昔はこのあたりは歌舞伎で賑わっていたところで、近くに歌舞伎発祥の地碑などがあります。

ちょっとそこまで、北座跡に行ってきました。京都祇園の四条通りの南側に歌舞伎やコンサートが開催されている南座がありますがその北側には北座がありました。ここ祇園は江戸時代から多くの芝居小屋があって賑わっていました。芝居を観て祇園で遊ぶ、なんてここと。良いですなぁー。現在は北座は記念碑のみとなっています。お土産屋さんの上を見ると北座とも書いていますがおもちゃ見たいです。失礼しました。

石碑と駒札があるだけですが・・・

ここは京都市中心部、四条通を隔てて南側には新装なった南座が、北側にはかつての芝居小屋であった北座が・・・今は北座は菓子メーカーさんのビルの屋上に塔屋があってそこに北座と云う表示がされている程度。(後日、写真を投稿します。今は同時に投稿させないサイトらしいなので・・・ナンセンス)。現在ではこの菓子メーカーさんが善意で建てた石碑(北座跡と云う)と駒札がお店の川端通沿いに立つだけ。ここは西暦１６１５年から２４年頃に四条河原での興行が許可されていた７か所の常設芝居小屋の一つです。河原の整備に伴いこの辺りに移転、集合したものです。幕末には７か所のうちの南座と北座だけが残っていたが、明治になって素養が劣る人物ばかりのがさつな政府が北座を取り壊し(文化の破壊ですねぇ)、現在みたいに南座だけになったとのこと。いやですねぇ・・・文化的素養に欠ける品が良くない役人達は。
