Seiryu-en or Kiyomizu Sannenzaka (it is spelt differently on lots of maps) is one of the most picturesque little shopping streets you will find in Kyoto. This pedestrianised alleyway is often choked with tourist because it is so well known. In the evening it takes on a magical quality when it is illuminated by lanterns. You really get a sense that you have gone back in time. It is quite a short street, which you can spend just ten minutes walking through, or a lot longer if you stop to buy things or drop into a tea-house. Photos on the wall show this lane as it was in days gone by.
It is on the very popular tourist walk between Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu-Dera Temple.

Kyoto is one of the most famous school trip directions in Japan. I've been there when I was in Junior high school. There are many small Japanese old style shops along the Sannei slope. Just looking around the shops are fun. :-) Especially Japanese traditional clothing patterns' goods are very nice to see. Handkachieves, towels, hair accesaries... Kyoto souvenirs can be purchased here.
