We were recently taken to this restaurant. It is an amalgamation of several places. If you book in advance you can sit in a special area that allows you to order from all thw restaurants. The star attraction is of course the 18 sake taster set, which has been curated to last and match throughout your meal. A lovely stop in a picturesque part of the city that seems like it is form another era.…

I felt really sad about coming back to my home country and finding out how expensive imported Japanese Sake was, so please enjoy this region as much as you can and make sure you take a few bottles back home (starting at around 1000 JPY). In addition to the excellent Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum (very well worth it) we visited a few bars and grocery shops where we could also get Sake tasting: - Kizakura Kappa Country - Fushimi Yumehyakushu - Aburacho Make sure you visit the boulevard close to the subway station there. You can find some very good (and cheap) local eateries. The place is a bit outside of the average touristic area, so you are able to enjoy the true local atmosphere. …

Our group of 9 visited the town of Fushimi in search of Sake. The town is known for its Sake production, large breweries, Sake shops & a museum. 3 weeks before arriving in Fushimi, I made an on-line reservation at a an establishment known as the Fushimi Sake Village (FSV). The term "Village", I believe is because of the relationships between the bar & neighboring Izakayas & restaurants. Our goal was to sample & learn about the locally brewed Sakes. We started with their featured 18 cup sampler (only 2200 yen!). It was the ideal start. All 18 Sakes served are brewed in the town, so as fresh as can be expected as Sake does not contain any preservatives. After sampling all 18 glasses, we ordered the favorites (the ones with the empty glasses facing up on our tray) & appetizers. Your food orders are provided by neighboring izakayas & restaurants. Please note, most of the food establishments open in the early eve For the widest selection of food, make your reservation for after 5pm & if you're going by train, take into account what time the last train leaves for Kyoto Station. It will help with the trying to remember the likes from the likes & the dislikes. One of best things we did was to take a picture of the bottle's label of all the favorites. Then just showed the picture at the Sake shop or department store and the staff knew exactly what we wanted. In summary, make a reservation through TableCheck, visit after 5pm & order your food before sampling. …

This was a fun find. Their is multiple restaurants under one roof. We found a table that allowed us to have a Sake tasting and order food from multiple restaurants that were all billed on the same tab. We choose a table close to the Ramen restaurant just inside the front door. The menu was in Japanese only but between the waiters help and the pictures on the menu we managed to order a great casual meal. The sake tasting was quite enjoyable too. If you are out for a local adventure, good food and sake give this place a try.…
