The area

Address
Neighborhood: Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.

Worth visiting, very steep climb up thousands of steps outlined by thousands of Japanese traditional orange arches.I don’t care how good of shape you are in you will need to take a break at every station on the way up.Heres the kicker that nobody tells you: There’s nothing to see once you have climbed to the highest spot except the same altars you saw hundreds of on the way up!Its not worth it, just go half ways up or until you can see the city view, after that there is nothing to see for the next 30 minutes of hiking.I wish some had told me!))

Prepare to climb some stairs but the view at the top answer surrounding grounds are stunning. Hard to believe it was built way back when. Be prepared for crowds and don't miss the meandering downhill walk through the old sidesteps full of shops and eateries.

The first gates are photographed a lot, continue walking the gates will come more than you expect. So pictures made at the end will be made only with you and no other visitors. It is great to watch all the other tourists however it is really a steep climb to the top. Will cost you an hour to come there. Take some water with you and be prepared.

When we visited this place by early April this year, we found that there were many shrines/arches, large or small and people, local or foreigners. It was really difficult to take nice photos around. When you climbed up the stairs, you would find that the shrines seemed to have no ending. The area was impressive but too many visitors. Recommended.

This shrine is the best one! Props to the people who used to live onsite because they were probably in really good shape as the shrine's arches go everywhere up to the top of the mountain! The view from there is beautiful.... if you are not in shape, you might find the climbing of the many stairs hard. But it's all worth it once you are at the top! Note that there is a lot of people there! Catching a beautiful picture with only you in it is a challenge on it,s own!

Fushimi Inari is a beautiful temple. It has long stairs with unique red taisha. You will get a good picture here =)

Avoid big crowds and go in the evening just before the Sun sets. Watch the city lights from the Rocky viewing point near the top of the mountain!
