The oldest brewery of sake in Japan,start from 1951 and now 13th generation family. This place very welcomes visitors. They usually sells other varieties of souvenirs and sakes.

Random find around the sake brewery area but was a great one. We visited their shop and their sake were tasty and staff were quite helpful to offer different grades of sake for tasting. We ended up buying some and they do offer tax refund with purchases over ¥5000. Book in advance if you want a tour of their brewery.

You need a reservation to tour the brewery, which we did not have, so call the day before to set up a tour. The tasting room was cool, but mostly a souvenir and sake shop. They have a menu you can buy a few different sake at and/or a tasting with 3 different styles of sake for pretty cheap, 500 yen if I remember correctly. Not much english being spoke here, so it was not easy to communicate but we got by alright with no Japanese at all.
The best part was the guy offering bottles of sake and tastings poured off the buckets. Those fresh sake were the best I have ever had. Amazing! Only disappointing they should be kept cold, so they are not good for long travels. (The lady at the counter told us to treat them like we would milk, -or we misunderstood-). Overall, even if you don't book a tour, go here for sake so good it will change your life. Its worth the trip just for that.

This was a great sake experience. It changed my whole perception of what sake is. I had the joy and pleasure of getting a tour of the production facility and then having a sake tasting session. I was really surprised how much versatility this brewery can give to sake. They are truly innovative. I highly recommend taking a tour of the facility, eating at their world-class restaurant and sampling their top-class sake. An overall wonderful experience.

Fantastic sake tour ! Also the shop and and tasting room is great - and then you can finish it all off with lunch or dinner in the adjoining restaurant. Well worth a visit !

If you plan to visit the sake breweries, first it is far from town, so don't start walking. I did, since it looked close to the city on the guide map, and I walked for hours! It was hard to find since there was no signs to find on my way. When I found it, I really regret, because I could not understand anything, since there were no translations from japanese. The staff tried to do their best to help, but communication was impossible since I do not understand japanese.It was a shop, and if you wish to buy a special bottle of sake, you can have a little taste. But you can not buy a menu of sake-tastes, as at many other breweries.
My conclusion is: if you are not familiar to japanese language or writing, find something else to do, or another brewery, - like the one in Nara, for instance!

Self-tour is possible, just need to get the Hanshin Tourist Pass (500yen) for unlimited Hanshin train ride and you will be able to explore all sake breweries around the area. Cheap and convenient! 9mins walk from Ishiyagawa station.
However this brewery does not offer tour (it was closed and maybe reservations may be needed? No information was given). The restaurant only opens during lunch and dinner, so visiting in the afternoon means no entrance to the restaurant as well.
Some tour groups were there so the place is packed and the staffs are busy entertaining the groups. Sake tasting is free, some award winning sake as well.
Not my favourite brewery though.

Although most of the free tour was in Japanese, but some of the promotional video was in English, so we did get to guess a little how the sake was produced on site and why the price range is so huge.
We got to see the history of this family run business, the brewery and finally, the taste testing of the various kind of sake. Was definitely worth the detour to visit.

Visited with 2 kids on a Monday. Was told only one brewery tour on the day and only Japanese- too sad. They do show some small video screen video in many language options but the whole 'luxury' experience of visiting the actual production site is missing - lost opportunity to sell more... we did like and buy some sake after all. Nothing to keep kids busy- again missed opportunity. Maybe some kids- sake (non alc)?

Kobe has some of the oldest brewery of sake in Japan, the Nada district has quite a few that welcomes visitors. They usually sells other varieties of souvenirs and food related item besides sakes. Shushinkan has an excellent selections that are tasty. The offer both free and for a fee tasting.

蔵見学はＡＭ11:00～20名様単位での先着予約制（除く12月）、10名様以上は要相談です。試飲は結構いろいろな種類を出していたと思いますし、テイスティングサイズでの現金購入もあると思います。

Hi Capri;
In answer to your questions; There is no tour with an English-speaking guide. However, there is a lot of "literature" available on the brewery that is in English. Also, the tour does allow you to see the sake production process, and it is very interesting. Finally, I don't think you can have a tour for just two people, but you have to check on this. You can try sending an email to the brewery or calling them. Hope this helps. Tom

To my knowledge they don't have tours in English. However, inside the brewery they do have signs, in English, describing the different stages of the brewing process. And the sake the sell is the best I have ever drunk!
