I visited during the 2021 azalea season, when Sorakuen was enveloped in azaleas, creating an impressive sight, so I visited to coincide with the INFLORATA Kobe Kitanozaka event held from May 3rd to 5th. Unfortunately, this year the best time to see the azaleas was before Golden Week (see attached photo), so I was unable to enjoy the impressive, beautiful scenery. If you want to enjoy the azaleas, it may be a good idea to check the flowering status before visiting. On the other hand, Japanese sweets (Iori Creative Sweets, sales period: April 20th to May 6th) were on sale at the Lawn Square, where I was able to spend a delicious moment.

Enchanting garden - a true oasis in the middle of the city. There are many mini-trails and places to rest, relax, take pictures, and just savor both historical heritage and the natural beauty. It also has a cafe restaurant with nice refreshments.

Beautiful park, perfectly cultivated, clean, with lots of undescribable beautiful fish and turtles swimming in the park lake. Park also contains a couple of interesting buildings. Definitely must see the place.

The garden is beautiful and peaceful. Nice place to just go and sit around and contemplate life. I liked the contrast of the garden and the surrounding concrete buildings.
However, it really is just a Japanese garden and since Japan is full of them, this particular one does not stand out.

Beautiful Japanese garden in Kobe, west of Sannomiya station. Traditional features (lake, mossy bit, boulders, little waterfall, many little paths to view the garden from different angles, old ornate pleasure houseboat) juxtaposed against city skyline. Much bigger than at first appears! Spent 2 hours there, walking, sitting admiring the views, had picnic there. My daughter (at Kobe University for a year) said she would revisit to do study work/revising for exams and relax. Cheap entrance fee considering the size and beauty of the place.

Tucked away one block off a main street, I asked our tour guide to let me split away from the group, which was going shopping in Chinatown, to wander through this garden in the rain.
Admission fee is a reasonable 300 yen. I was the only one there and loved wandering around this comfortable and diverse garden.
Well maintained, with brochures and signs in Japanese and English, the garden is slightly more than 100 years old and offers several surprises including a lacquer and gold leaf houseboat, tea house, historic home and stables. Everywhere you go in this garden, you will hear waterfalls.

We certainly didn’t see every garden there was on our trip to Japan (I’m not sure you could possibly see every garden) but we did see a good cross section of gardens in the Tokyo, Nagano, Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe areas. I have to say that the Sorakuen Garden in Kobe was one of the nicest.
Sorakuen is a traditional Japanese landscape garden. Prior to the war, one of the former mayors of Kobe had his residence there and built the gardens surrounding his home. However, during the Second World War, bombing destroyed the property and the only structure that remains now is a local traders the home, which was moved to the site in the 60’s.
The garden is so tranquil, with a lovely Koi pond, bridges, and small niches set aside for you to just sit and soak up the peaceful surroundings. What is most amazing is that it is smack dab in the middle of the city but once you are inside the garden walls you seem to be transported away to another world. We just loved the garden and spent pretty much the whole day there.

You can enjoy beautiful and quiet garden including Japanese garden arranged in the garden in the center of Kobe city. (Entrance fee is 300 Japanese yen/person.)

You can visit here when you visit Kobe (near JR Sannomiya station). You may have diffuculty in finding the parking lots because almost of the parking lots near Sorakuen are full. Visiting here by train is recommended.

I have been here with my friend in a summer day of July. The garden was much bigger than I expected. It was not very crowded that day, so we had a really chilling and relaxing time. The garden has a long history, it has been growing for many years - you can find a Japanese ancient atmosphere here. The lake was glorious. That place could be perfect with red leaves if you visit there in autumn. The entrance fee is also quite cheap, it's maybe ¥300. Totally worth it!

We took a walk around these gardens in February and there was plenty to see. It has a lovely design and some nice hidden nooks and crannies to explore. There's a serene pond/lake with Koi Carp and the old stable and house were nice to see too. Definitely well worth the 300 yen. A nice little activity to do if you have the time while visiting Kobe.
