Horrible Slow Animal cruelty. These Animals do not have a good life! Some of the animals can hardly turn around. It is so sad to see, don`t let your children see how bad these animals have it. Is there no animal right groups in Japan???

I don’t know if all zoos make me sad or if it was just the Kobe City Oji Zoo, but the animals didn’t look like they were having too much fun. I did get to see some cool animals though, especially a panda and a red panda!

The Oji Zoo is extremely easy to get to. Take the Hankyu line and get off at the Oji Koen stop. Follow the large blue signs shaped like arrows and you will find the zoo! You will know you are close because you will see amusement park rides.

The zoo only charges 600 yen to enter, but based on the condition of the zoo I think they should raise the price and put the funds towards an update. The zoo seems old and run down and I felt sorry for the animals. I’m unsure if all zoos are like this because I can recall feeling bad for animals at all zoos, but this zoo seemed especially run down.

Some of the animals I saw that I don’t recall having seeing before were a red panda, a panda, porcupines, a stork and an elephant with tusks. I had seen most of the other animals before but it was still nice to see them. Many of the animals were pacing in their habitats – we guessed that it must have been close to feeding time because we did eventually see some of the animals get fed. What was interesting was how they separated the animals prior to feeding them. For example: they put a male hippopotamus in his own habitat with his own food and a baby and mother hippopotamus in a separate area. I’m assuming it was so all of the animals got fed and that there was no competition for food. There wasn't any information in English so we never learned what the exact reason was for the separation.

Near the entrance of the park was a kiddie amusement park area that was cute but we just walked through and looked at all of the cute Japanese cartoon themed rides.

The zoo was fun to go to and I was super excited to see a panda, but like I said before the conditions were not too great for the animals. It was super cheap which was a plus, but I don’t know that I would go back.

It's up there with being the worst zoo I've ever visited. The enclosures, if you can call them that, are way too small, concrete, no food, no enrichment and no hiding places. The monkeys were looking around for food the whole time, very obviously hungry and board. Some of the cages were rusting which isn't good for the animals. There was hardly any space for most of the animals. I cried at least twice during my visit here, it was a harrowing experience and I will urge everyone not to visit this zoo.

The best thing about this zoo is the price, around five bucks if I remember. That is also the bad thing as well. If the zoo is to improve then it needs to raise the ticket prices. Australian zoos are expensive, and as such, world class venues with ample space for the animals. This zoo is more of a product of the '50s and the animals are hunched in small cages. So if you have a soft spot for animals then you might want to skip this one

We were in Kobe mid week & decided to head to the zoo to see Tan Tan the panda. There was no waiting to get in or to see the exhibits, there were a lot of school children on an excursion but other than that it was just about ours. Yes it’s a little dated but who cares the animals are there to see. I loved that with some animals there was a chance to see where they slept incase they weren’t out. It was an enjoyable day and if your visiting Kobe & looking for something to do this could be something.

I enjoyed this zoo a lot. There are animals I wouldn't see normally and in some cases visitors can get closer to them than I have at other zoos. We were able to see panda leaning against a tree eating without obstructions and at pretty close range. We were able to go into the enclosure with strutting peacocks.
Some of the enclosures were too small for animals who paced and seemed to exhibit stressed behaviors. The kangaroo area was smelly. I am told the Kyoto Zoo is better funded with better habitats, but I enjoyed my visit. Going early in the day was good since school groups visit and it can get crowded.

Easy to access by train and just a few minutes walk away. Cheap entrance fee. Quite a big variety of animals and there was even a panda. A small amusement park with some simple rides was enough to keep my kids happy.

We were very disheartened to see all of the animals in too small enclosures, some like the flamingos over bread and over populated in their enclosure. One of the elephants was crying, pacing and holding its own tusk the whole time. I spent 20 minutes too long in there.

The panda on loan looked really sad in his big concrete cage, with just a platform to sit on, not comfortable at all.
