We could not have timed our trip up Mt. Rokko for a better part of the year. The flowering trees were all coming into blossom and the whole mountain was alive with different colors. The road up is quite winding with many switchbacks and crossovers and they are upgrading some barriers to landslides on some hillsides. Not for thrill seekers... More

You can go to the top by hiking, or use the quaint (but very safe and well-run) cable car. Although the view on a clear day is much bandied about, it is also a great activity for a rainy or foggy day. A bus from the cable car station will take you to various spots on the hill top, one... More

Arrived at rokko cable car station with the notice "view not clear due to fog". We thought "oh well, how bad could it be? We're here anyway, so let's go!". Upon reaching the top, how wrong were we. The fog was really thick and we could not see the famed night view at all! Anyway, the ride up was still... More

After a rainy day when the air is Clear it is possible to see Wakayama and the KIX Airport. If lucky even the Akashi Ohashi the world longest suspension bridge is visible. All that in an elevation of almost 1000 meter and with temperatures almost 10 degrees lower than down in the Harbour. The always present breeze makes it a... More

Japan offers hundreds if not thousands of breathtaking mountain views and experiences, this is not one of them. It is a total waste of your time, and so many alternatives

We came from the south from the Hanky railway line and continued to Arima. All in all this took us a bit more than five hours. On a Sunday afternoon, parts of the hike were a bit crowded, but it was still ok. Signs are in Japanese only but other hikers helped us when we were unsure. Great views on... More

a good place for sightseeing, nice cablecar, good view from the top, you can see view of kobe city from the top, you can walk from the top to observation etc, and continue your journey to arima onsen using bus and cable car, there is a pass from mount rokko to arima onsen, and it's convenience

If you like animals, especially sheep and goats, this place should be on your list. Little kids really love this place as the animals are very people friendly, especially with people holding food. The scenery is also very beautiful. However, if you have elderly folks with you, you should know that getting to Mt Rokko itself involves walking up steep... More
