I rode the tram to reach this Port. It took about 45-50 minutes for the tram to get here. There is a short ferry ride from this port to the Miyajima Island. For both rides, I used my ICOCA prepaid card.

Very efficient ferry terminal both for embarking and disembarking for Miyajima, as well asvtaking the tram back into central Hiroshima.

If traveling to Matsuyama on the island of Shikoku then by ferry is a great way to go. I used the Ishizaki fast ferry leaving Hiroshima Port at 9.30am arriving into Matsuyama at 10.47am after a brief stop at Kure port. One way ticket was 4,970 yen. Once you arrive at Matsuyama port it is easy to grab a lux bus to JR Rail Station, it cost 610 yen. No hassles and easy to navigate, once at JR station you are in the center of the city with easy access to accommodation and sites.

There are so many places that you can travel to from Hiroshima Port or take a cruise around the nearby islands of the Inland Sea. The port building itself has all been renovated and now hosts a number of cafes and restaurants, bakeries, and convenience stores from which you can purchase basic needs through to a relaxing meal.
The streetcars will take you from Hiroshima Station or downtown Hiroshima to the port in relaxed comfort for a trip to somewhere or just to visit and take a walk around the area, or enjoy a coffee or lunch.
Check the schedules as there are so many places you can visit leaving from the port - day trip or holiday, take the car on some of the ferries for drives to different areas to see more of Japan.
In front of the Port terminal there is a large park with great places to play for children and families, picnic, or just relax in the sun. From November there is a great bbq oyster restaurant where you can sit outside or inside and enjoy a feast of oysters. This is always VERY popular with the people of Hiroshima and surrounding areas.
Definitely worth a visit and a walk along the waterfront!

Enjoyed sitting here waiting for our hydrofoil to Matsuyama
One must remember this is only a huge area to catch ferries, not a place to make a special visit.
The facility is large and clean

I went to catch the high speed ferry to Matsuyama, as I went to pay the lady told me I could get the ticket half price (as a tourist) if I pay with cash so I went to the atm, and it doesn't accept foreign cards so I went back to pay with card and she wouldn't let me, she pointed on a map to where another atm was (10mins walk away!) I couldn't leave my bags and regardless the ferry I needed left in 10 minutes, so after some time of me using google translate poorly I convinced her I didn't mind paying full price and got my ferry.
Would be nice if they had another atm that accepted foreign cards.

Our cruise ship had a one-day visit to Hiroshima on a very nice day. I'd been to Nagasaki many times, but this was my first time to the city where the USA dropped the first Atomic bomb in 1945 that helped to bring a close to the war.
The port area was very clean and welcoming, and it's possible to walk to a shopping area, although the main "downtown area" is quiet a distance away (bus ride and then a 25-minute train ride).
The terminal building is more like a large warehouse, but there were many vendors set up inside (some look permanent) with all types of items for sale. You can buy shirts and kimonos, items to eat (although most can't be brought back on the ship), water, sodas, etc. There was a table with free information and maps and helpful people.

Hiroshima Port Ujina Passenger Terminal lies on the coast south of the main part of Hiroshima. This is the main gateway ferry links to Shikoku, and also serves nearby islands such as Miyajima. We took the JR Sanyo Line to Miyajimaguchi Station here and the JR Pass allows free transport to Miyajima (more than 15 minutes). This ferry departs from one of the docks here, with both vehicles & passengers to the opposite Miyajima Pier
We did not spend much time here as we wanted to reach Miyajima the soonest. :>
Within the terminal building there are the usual souvenirs shops, tourist info counter and also a few cafes/eateries. It is from here that you can grab some food from one of the cafes and watch the coming and going of the various ferries and the merry makers.
We took and it was indeed a wonderful ferry trip to the lovely island of Miyajima, and particularly scenic coming in via the ferry, with the famous tori gate coming into view.
The same way when we returned. Definitely a convenient and efficient transport mode.

Can anyone tell me which port in Hiroshima is docked in April?
Written March 4, 2019
Struggling to find information about where ferries to Miyajima leave from. Anyone know if they leave close to the cruise terminal? We are on the windstar Legend in October. Many thanks
Written June 28, 2018
Hi BDslt,
we are also on Star Legend arriving Hiroshima Monday 8th October, looking at ways of experiencing Japan without guided tours to all places.
Maybe we could share knowledge?

Hi, we have a few hours spare on a cruise ship.
Anywhere nice to eat within walking distant of the port?
Written May 20, 2018
Just walk 5 minutes to the right-facing the bay and just outside the cruiseport you will find 2-3 small Japanese restaurants with a little terrace in converted warehouses.
Written May 21, 2018
Please advise a non native speaker about getting from the cruise port to the atomic bomb dome and Peace Memorial Park and back to the ship. We only have a morning in Hiroshima so seeing much more of the city is probably not feasible?
Written March 20, 2018
I do not know on which ship you are sailing.
Ours had a FREE shuttle from the port to the Peace Park and return. Check with your cruiseline. If no shuttle, your best way to go is walk to the nearest stop ( = stop Kaigan-dori ) of tramline nr.1 ( red line ) = less than 10 minutes walk from the cruiseport. A 20-25 minutes ride will take you to Hondori-or Kamiya-cho-higashi stop ( cost 180 yen ).
From both stops its only 5-10 minutes to the A-bomb Dome and another 5 minutes to the Peace Park.
