We read online that this was a fun place and we weren’t disappointed. Tucked away up stairs on the third floor of a block it look closed but fortunately it was not. The owners were lovely and as it was a quiet time happily joined us in conversation. Its USP is the collection of over 6000 CDs in racks behind the bar along with plenty of vinyl too. The guys are seriously knowledgable about music and speak great English. They even found a live album of a concert tour I went to in1978 which I had no idea existed. Absolutely wonderful! We only popped in for one drink but stayed for several more. Highly recommended if you like music and good humour.

We've seen the bar here and thought this would be a great place to be. Went there with an friend and the staff is really friendly, the music is good, around midnight it's getting crowded and people are dancing. Very nice bar I easily can recommend!

The new MAC opened at the end of July a new location. We were there in October during our annual visit to Japan. It was wonderful to see Yuri and Boku.
The new MAC has the same wonderful music as the one that was forced to close last year as the building was going to be torn down.
It is located on the third floor (only 2 short fights up) at 3-4 Tatemachi, Naka-ku in the Bora Bora building in between Hon Dori (arcade shopping street) and Aioi Dori (where the street cars are),
Go and enjoy yourself. It is closed on Sundays.

Went to Mac Bar based on the reviews. Opened the door to be confronted with a lot of smokers in the bar rather than in a separate smoking area. Didn't stay, went to The Smith instead, had a pleasant stay and an excellent Hiroshima Gin.

The service is great!! Don't get me wrong.. But the place is filled with U.S jocks kicking and screaming in tune with Metallica, Bruce Springsteen and so on... Sorry, but it felt like an expat shindig..

I had a great evening sipping on sake and enjoying japanese beer in this bar. The friendly owner has a huge CD collection and will let you choose what song is played next..There is a dance floor that filled up the night I was there.

I was here on a weeknight, so it wasn't a crazy scene. But that gave me and my boyfriend just the right energy to chat with the woman bartender, who was awesome and spoke very good English. She told us all about her life and we conversed with the other bar patrons in Japanese and English. She even wrote out some recommendations for me to listen to (Japanese music with words that wasn't too "pop-y") and we wrote some for her. She was an excellent conversationalist and kept the drinks and great music coming. This might not be the place for super young people who just want to party on a weeknight, but I was told that weekends are very lively with lots of people dancing. For people who want great classic tunes and good conversation, I would highly recommend Mac's.

About a year after the previous building was demolished, followed by the sad loss of its legendary owner, Hiroshima"s best bar has reopened in a new location with Yuru in charge as usual, ably assisted by Boku-chan. It's now in Tate-machi, on the east side of the same block as Round One, a huge game center between the streetcar street and Hondori, on the 3rd floor of the Bora Bora building, opposite Honey and Hatchi. The regulars are delighted, as will be the visitors. Excellent English spoken by the staff and by quite a few of the customers. For cheap drinks with no cover charge, an excellent range of music and the best advice on local travel and eateries, you can't really go wrong here. It seems the 40 year old tradition is set to continue for quite a while to come. Time will tell if late at the weekend sometimes lively dancing occurs, as at the last location. More probably the occasional midweek dance fest will bring the regular and the visitor, the decrepit (like me) and the young, to love this unique spot. Apologies if this very biased review sounds like an ad - I've been in love with the place since my first visit.
