Its nothing special but it is fun to walk down the main shopping center of Hiroshima. Most major cities in Japan have one of these streets. Lots of shops and restaurants to stop and look in. If you are in Hiroshima and have time, its worth the stroll. Starts near Hiroshima Peace Park and at the end take a right at Parco and eat delicious okinomiyaki at Okinomimura.

By Osaka standards, this shotengai or shopping arcade is small and mediocre. When I first moved to Hiroshima from Osaka, I was appalled and found the city too small for my big city tastes! Hondori is nice but extremely expensive. Do not shop in Hondori. Everything there is overpriced and overrated. Go to Osaka (shinsaibashi) if you are looking for a deal. When in Hondori, try and eat at Ootoya (japanese restaurant) which is very reasonable or Saizeria (japanized italian food). Doesn't hurt to look around but options are really limited in Hondori in spite of it being the main shopping arcade.

Nothing beyond the ordinary shopping, but great place to find food after visiting Peace Park. Very close to the location where the actual bomb went off.

Hon dori street is the main shopping arcade in hiroshima. Theres one in every city - dotonbori in osaka, teramachi in kyoto, etc. Hon dori has similar stores sucb as ABC shoes, uniqlo, random bag stores, etc. There isnt a lot of hiroshima-specific souvenirs other than starbucks cups. All in all, its just another regular shopping arcade.

Under cover shopping street in Hiroshima. On one end of the street is Parco shopping mall, on the other end is the way to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, with shops, restaurants and some bars everywhere in between.
Its nothing special compared to other street shopping in Japan (though there is cool Goku statue in front of the Shonen Jump store :D:D:D ). You'll have your usual Uniqlo, ABC Mart and Daiso.
Good place to find somewhere to eat after visiting the Peace Park or for killing time.
No particular recommendation here, should do a little exploring ;)

Hiroshima has a bustling downtown area, the main feature of which is Hondori Street. Definitely a trip here when one is in Hiroshima city, especially its close proximity to the Memorial Park (The Dome and Monuments…).
Hondori is a long stretch of covered pedestrian arcade that is closed to traffic and stretches from Parco at one end to Sunmall at the Memorial Park side. It does have ‘break” because of intersecting roads. The high ceiling, with colourful banners adds to feeling of grandness and anticipation. One can also take the Sight-Seeing Bus (Meipurupu - Stop 5 Kamiya-Cho).
We made several walking trips through this shopping arcade on our stay near JR Station. Along this long-lined shopping street, you can find a variety of shops such as clothing stores, drugstores, bookstores, CD stores, convenience stores and even game centers. There are quite a lot of shops selling souvenirs, coffee chain and the surrounding area is also full of great restaurants/eateries, like the famous Okonomimura, a separate 4-storey building nearby. However some may find it a pretty ordinary shopping area which is frequented by locals and tourists alike. …
There are also many side-roads or “off shoots” to make endless hours of shopping, cafes and restaurants!! Do not hesitate to lose yourself in these surrounding streets, which are also very nice.
Potentially hours of exploring here as other arcades, shopping areas etc. spill out from this. Start at one end & work your way down to the other.
Not quite comparable with Shinnsaibashi, Nagoya’s Osu or Fukuoka’s 新天町 (Shintencho) but still an interesting one to explore at your own pace.. a must-see if in Hiroshima. :>

Parco Mall, Sun Mall and tons of off shoots to make endless hours of shopping, cafes and restaurants!! I'd highly recommend Sun Mall's top levels- you can find tons of crazy Japanese fashion there!! But really, this area branches off onto so many streets! I counted four Daiso's and four Tully's all within a KM of each other!! Great way to spend a rainy afternoon.

We were walking back to our hotel after dinner at a nearby Turkish restaurant and discovered this covered shopping area. Unfortunately, some of the stores were closing. It was fun to shop and simply, window shop.

I expected to be underwhelmed by the shopping mall, but it had a nice blend of tourist tatt, Japanese made goods and brand name shopping. Excellent in any weather as undercover.

This is a covered stretch of shops on both sides of the street. No worry about rain or shine. After visiting the Atomic Bomb by taking the street car from Hiroshima to Genkaku Station. (Inside city is 180yen). From Atomic Bomb, cross over the bridge towards 7/11. The end of the Hondori Street is Parco.
