Free to enter. Exhibition of photos and met the curator. Story is that none of the staff survived but the money did and bank reopened a couple of days after the bomb. Can go in side the vault too. Worth a visit.

One of the few buildings in Hiroshima left standing after the bomb. This is the Former Bank of Japan HQ and as a result of it's substantial construction it was resilient to the blast just 380m away. A couple of people survived inside. It is open to the public occasionally. It's located on Rijo-dori just five minutes walk from the A-Bomb dome. You can continue south down this road to discover more buildings which survived. Ending up at the hospital just after the road turns left.

I called in to the former Bank of Japan on my way from the Fukuromachi Elementary School to the Peace Museum. Initial impressions were that there was far less to see but after wandering around for a while I found the exhibition content in the basement areas, which were very atmospheric. At the time of my visit there was also an art display in the banking hall.
Good points:
+ An interesting comparison with the content in the nearby Elementary School museum
+ Free
Not so good points:
- I did not encounter any staff during my visit so there was no-one who could answer questions

We were the only people visiting which made it a bit eerie. Free entry. Worth going down to see the bank vaults, then up to the second floor to see the director’s office where the wood panelling shows damage from the bomb.

This large 20th century western style masonry building housed the Bank of Japan. It survived the blast as did some people who were in the basement. The bank opened shortly after the bombing to enable people to function and to help to normalize life. You can wander through the banking floor, offices above and the basement with the vaults. There is an interesting, albeit very simple "old fashioned" exhibit below with photos of the city and the bombing, historical accounts from both sides and art from survivors. It is a somber but appropriate reminder. Integral part of the Peace Park experience.

We just walked in as there was no reception or ticket office. We walked down to the vaults and there were interesting photo displays. You could see where the vault doors had been damaged by the bomb. It is not a long walk back to the peace park. Google maps will help you find it.

We found this by chance and wandered in. If you are nearby, it's worth a visit. One of few buildings that survived the a-bomb blast and then functioned in the following days as well.

Very little to recommend. Obviously a place waiting to be useful. Some black and white photos showing it against the stark reality of the atomic bomb.

This is just an old bank that survived the nuclear bombing so some people might find it a little dull. I used to work in a bank and enjoyed seeing the old vaults and the managers room.
This place is free and probably staffed by volunteers. I spoke to them an older lady and some, probably high school kids, and they were super friendly and nice. They were proud of Hiroshima and really happy that we visited. They even gave my daughter a small gift.
Go if you are in the area. It's an interesting way to spend 15 pr 20 minutes.

found this by accident heading out from the hotel. Easily missed as its just a grey slab sided building BUT it's housing part of the historic documents from the peace museum whilst refurbishment there is underway. These are harrowing as they are peoples sketches and testimonies of the immediate aftermath of the explosion.
There is just a little 'menu' like sign to denote the historic importance of this building - overshadowed by many of the other sites, however it too has a significant story to tell.
Well worth a visit and most sobering. Particularly down in the vaults.
