Next Door wonders

This place is honestly beautiful. It was right next to ANA Crowne Plaza. It was on my to do list and I am happy I got a chance to see it.

Beautiful small shrine
Mar 2019 • Couples
Don't go out of your way to see the shrine but if you are nearby it is worth going to. A lot of Japanese people do pray at the shrine.

Small shrine
Nov 2018 • Couples
If you are nearby, do pop in for a visit - it is a small shrine so will only take a few minutes. As a result, I wouldn’t make a detour to go there.

Next to our hotel!

It is such a beautiful site! I enjoyed studying the detail of the lanterns and artwork around the grounds. Watching the people participate in their worship was so powerful for me... the business men and women quickly walking up and notifying god they were there and watching them receive their blessing was so inspiring for me. Very lovely!

Next to Crowne Plaza hotel

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza and walked past the shrine. Saw the local people paying respects and ringing the bell there. Watched what they did, and we did the same too. Looks peaceful and serene.

A unique shrine situated in the (corner of) city centre
Sep 2017
We heard about this unique shrine (SHIRAKAMI-SHA 白神社) that is smacked right in the business district, at one corner very near ANA Crowne Plaza hotel
We took the Meipuru-pu Hiroshima Sightseeing Loop bus and alight at Peace Memeorial Park stop. Just crossed the Heiwa-Ohashi bridge towards the NHK Broadcasting bldg and you will see it, with its shade of white!! A very small shrine indeed infront of the busy intersection where Peace Boulevard and Rijo-dori meets.
It was drizzling on a Thursday late afternoon and we saw locals (office workers and students) dropping in to pay their respects and offer prayers.
We understand that it is one of the city’s oldest shrines, and that the “white” referred to in its name was used long-time back to alert boats of the outcrop of rocks that occupied where the shrine is today. Much of the area now are all from reclamation Work to extend the city. Being not far from the A-bomb hypocenter the entire shrine was destroyed back in 1945. It was since rebuilt but the present shrine occupies a much smaller plot of land than it did; tucked into a corner. Shirakami-san provides a patch of green among the tall modern buildings that now surround it and we can imagine it to be frequently buzzing with activity. seeing the outer portion and the beautiful stairs made it worth seeking out.
I went up to the small Hall make a quick prayer stayed for about 25 mins looking at the beautiful structures and we take a slow walk back to Hon-dori street

Beautiful from the outside

We arrived just after 5 pm and weren't able to enter. That being said, seeing the outer portion and the beautiful stairs made it worth seeking out. It is on the corner right beside the ANA Crowne Plaza hotel.

Shrine on Corner

It is an interesting structure that is obviously kept up. It is right next to the Crown Plaza and behind some of the trees that survived the Atomic Bob. Strange place though.
