Very good

There is something quite special about the staff here. I hesitate to say that the reps (all fluent in English) seemed like old friends, because they are consummate professionals. But they really appeared genuinely happy to see us whenever we dropped by and eager to assist in anyway possible to ensure that our experience in the Hiroshima area was a good one. We first stopped at the center when we arrived in the city by train. At that time, we picked up maps and brochures about city attractions. The woman assisting us asked where we were staying, pointed out its location on a map and offered two options for getting there.

The next morning we returned, looking for a breakfast suggestion in the station as we had yet to find a place to eat. And we needed help in finding unexpectedly elusive restrooms. We had been following directional signs for about 10 minutes, going around in circles on two floors. They turned out to be hidden in the restaurant area of a big department store that had yet to open all its entrances. Our third stop yielded a treasure trove of information about Miyajima, along with a train schedule for getting to the ferry dock.

Located on the second floor of the Hiroshima Station, the center is outside the bulletin train ticket gate.

Very Helpful Staff
May 2019 • Friends
We visited this Tourist Information center several times when we were staying in Hiroshima. The staff in this center are just wonderful. They told us about the HOHO bus that we could use to go see the Hiroshima Peace Memorial sites. They also told us how to get to the Miyajima island using the JR trains. They reminded us that the Hiroshima and Miyajima transportation was covered by the JR pass.

The Hiroshima station is also very huge with many different restaurants. The staff also helped us figure out where the individual restaurants were located and recommended some good ones as well. It was necessary to get their help as the signage on these restaurants were all in Japanese and we would not have been able to find them by ourselves.

I really appreciated all the help that the staff gave to me. They made my visit to Hiroshima very pleasant.

有問題找他們問就對了! Knowledgeable and friendly staff with spot-on recommendations

My trip to Hiroshima was kind of last minute. I did not do a lot of research besides finding lodging near the JR station. So I visited the Hiroshima City Tourist Information Office pretty much each day, at the end of the day, to get food recommendations and sightseeing information for the next day before going back to rest.

The staff at Hiroshima City Tourist Information Center (despite here being referred to as JR Hiroshima Tourist Center - they are not JR affiliated as far as I could tell) were able to answer all my questions about local transportation, intercity bus, food recommendation, high and low tide times (for visiting Miyajima) and so on - at the blink of an eye. Every time I finished my question it was as if they were expecting it and would immediately pull out relevant brochures/pamphlets/maps and start explaining and marking with a highlighter where things were and how to get there.

All the food recommendations were spot on, also. All of the staff members I spoke with seemed to be able to tell, after asking me just a question or two, whether I wanted information and choose the restaurant myself, or I was so hungry I just wanted them to choose a restaurant and give me the name. Thanks to them I discovered a few really cool restaurants/eateries (all were inside the JR station - amazing variety of food choices!) that I otherwise would not have known to try, including ones that are popular with locals, serving family style food that don't specifically focus on "Hiroshima" specialty.

Another moment that stood out and really exemplified their ability to listen and address traveler needs was how this particular young lady (I'm sorry but I cannot recall her name) handled my language dilemma.

I had jokingly mentioned my dilemma of never knowing whether to take the English map (which helps me say the place names) or the Chinese (which helps me read the place names) and often taking both and end up feeling guilty, because I really want to travel light and be more environmental.

Upon hearing this, she immediately went to one of the display walls and got me an A4 size, one-page, black-n-white map. It was bilingual. In Italian and Japanese. I guess because there were not enough Italian tourists to justify printing out the glossy, fancy, monolingual maps and brochures. Yet that particular map, not using any of the languages I speak, met my needs perfectly. The romanized Japanese names in Italian were no different from English. And I could read the Japanese names in Chinese characters.

Of all my visits to tourism offices in Japan, this was the first time my dilemma (or peculiar language need) was resolved with a perfect yet completely outside of the box solution. Hats off to this young woman (again, I wish I remembered her name!!!)

The only question this tourism office was unable to answer was when I asked if people had written reviews about them on Tripadvisor, because I wanted to write a review telling others how they really helped enrich my visit to Hiroshima. They knew Tripadvisor but had no idea if anyone had written about them.

I'm wondering if it is because the name listed here is JR Hiroshima Tourist Information Office instead of what they go by, Hiroshima City Tourist Information Office (but yes they are located in the JR station).

Regardless, I'm happy to write this review and hope they see it. It is my way of saying "Thank you" for all their professional and friendly help that made Hiroshima a city I want to visit again.

If you take the train to Hiroshima (esp if Shinkansen), they are located right at the Shinkansen exist.

Impressive, professional service

I saw first hand how the staff here handled pressure and passed the test with flying colors. On the day we left Hiroshima, it had been raining heavily and several of the scheduled Shinkansen trips were cancelled due to heavy flooding especially those going south. This JR center was jammed with desperate travelers who had to rebooked their trip and there were literally hundreds of them in line. The staff handled the pressurized situation professionally and were very poised, yet sympathetic and took time to help each customer, whether local or foreigner. They were able to move the line along fairly quickly. We were able to get out in time. Hats off to them.
