The Astram transit line in Hiroshima is called a people mover since it moves on rubber tires instead of steel tracks. The cars and stations are similar to any other transit line..It is the way to get to the Hiroshima Transportation museum. Note that it is the only transportation line in Hiiroshioma that does not accept the one and three days Hiroshima unlimited trans passes.

At Hiroshima we had stayed in the Nakamachi area and we had to go to Miyajima. My son who lives in Tokyo deteriorated that we should first do the 5/7 minute odd walk to the metro station and catch the Astram Line. The best thing about this underground line is that we could use the Icoca card which we had purchased in Kyoto in 2014 and have been using in Tokyo during our current visit after 2.5 years. The cars and stations are new , clean ( what else do you expect in Japan) and there were very few persons using it. The staff at the gate was friendly and the tariff reasonable. We got a very convenient connection to the JR line taking us to Miyajima when we exited the Astram Line. Would recommend it although not many tourists seem to be aware of it.

Every time we come to Hiroshima we use the Astram Line monorail from the city out to Obara Station and sometimes to the end of the line near Edion Staduim.
It is a great service that goes about every ten minutes, very clean and comfortable and one gets a great view from up there looking over the residential and commercial areas as well as the lovely hill country , always enjoy the ride.
