At the southern end of Nakajima park, it is a nice shrine to walk by. There is a nice green space around it which is probably full of spring flowers. In August it was all the green colors of summer.

The highlight here was definitely seeing the cherry blossoms and the huge tall trees. It was cool to see the temple of course but nothing can beat cherry blossom.

This is familiar for locals and a nice place for walking along with Nakajima Park near here. The Kamokamo river is flowing just in front of the shrine which is beautiful and the oldest one through the central city area. In the center of Sapporo city, it is so nice and quiet. Fresh air makes you feel better when you get tired from walking so much. When you are traveling Sapporo Gokoku Shrine is a place that makes you tour more beautiful and remove restlessness.

We attended Our Sons wedding ceremony held in traditinal style as he married his Japanese girl friend at Gokoku Shrine, This was a great experience the shrine and surounding grounds were perfict a lovely peacefull atomisphere and the rooms available to the family and wedding party to dress and prepare were very traditional Japanese with the staff very help full although we could not speak Japanese we managed to follow what was happening, It was so serial being apart of the actual ceremony with the wedding party with our son and his bride and her family all dressed in Traditional Kimomo with bright colours walking down the long path to the Shrine where the actual ceremony took place the shrine it self was set out for our wedding party with the brides family setting opposit the grooms family and the bride and groom setted in between faceing the alter and the Prest with two Japanese musicians playing in the background the shrine was very decorative in traditional style, the whole ceremony last about 40 minutes with plenty of time for photos after. The location is in easy reach of most hotels and we found the shrine and surounding grounds lovely and suitable for such an event.
