Autumn Colours abound
Oct 2019
This place is less than an hour’s bus ride from Sapporo City Centre. Might I add, it’s best to book your roundtrip ticket online so as not to waste anytime queueing. Bus departing from the stations near Tokyu Hands leave on the dot, though getting a bus on the way back to Sapporo may be a little tricky. This town is very walkable, quite peaceful and has a wonderful scenery of the autumn foliage during and after your ride. There is a spronkle of foot baths along the way, don’t forget to bring your small towel to dry uour feet with. All in all, I highly rcommend Jozankei Onsen Town- no wonder it is quite the favourite among locals.

It’s great half day trip even without Onsen
Dec 2019 • Family
We travelled with children and we decided not to do Onsen but visited the park instead. We took the express kappa-liner (60min) at 11am but missed the timing for the express one back at 3pm and took the normal (80min) back at 3++pm. Would suggest to watch out for the timing and catch the express kappa-liner. The normal bus is very crowded and many stops.

The foot soak in the park is free. Do remember to bring a small towel to dry your feet. You can buy the Onsen eggs and cook on your own in the park. We had late breakfast in Sapporo and spend about 2 hour plus at the park and head back to Susukino for ramen at ramen street. Odd hour but it works for us as we manage to get into the famous Ramen shop before the peak hour.

Fantastic Scenery (9 Dec 2019)
Dec 2019
I'll start by saying it's must-go destination.
The scenery there is amazing, simply beautiful.

And there's hot spring literally everywhere lol.

From Sapporo, it is easy to get there. If you're staying near Susukino, you can board bus No 7 or No 8 to Jozankei from the bus stop just right in front of Susukino Lafiler.

A half day there is sufficient in my opinion.

Awesome Onsen Day Trip From Sapporo
Sep 2019 • Family
My husband & I were keen to do an Onsen but our 12 & 14 year old definitely weren’t, and we also wanted to do it within a day trip of Sapporo. You can get a fabulous return bus trip plus an Onsen at your choice of hotels in the Jozankei area for ¥2000 for adults or ¥1000 for children from the bus interchange at Sapporo Station.
The Jozankei View Hotel was a fabulous place for families as our kids were able to play in a fantastic pool/water play complex in their swimmers/togs/bathers while my husband and I tag teamed watching them and enjoying the single gender onsens. No tattoos are allowed there though I have read that they are allowed at other places included with the bus trip package. There is also a fabulous buffet lunch at the Jozankei View Hotel that we all enjoyed. The day turned out to be one of our highlights for the entire family from our trip to Japan

Relaxation to the max
Oct 2019 • Family
I always enjoy a good onsen in Japan, the onsen of Jozankei is of excellent quality.

If you have some extra time for your trip, staying there overnight will save you quite some travel time and you can enjoy more of the local atmosphere. Here the eateries will actually close once they are sold out with their limited quantity but excellent quality of the food.

Tip if you plan to travel for a day there, you can purchase a Jotetsu combi card for 2200 JPY (price is actual on Oct 2019). This allows you to unlimited rides on the bus between Sapporo and Jozankei and all the stops in between for a day plus one participating hotel or ryoken entrance of your choice for free.
You can activate the ticket by scratching the actual date of usage.

If you want to know the facilities, visit the local tourist info center first, as they can provide you all the info. Enjoy, relax and have fun!

Nice Onsen
Feb 2019 • Friends
It’s great to experience onsen culture in Japan. Sadly Jokanzei village is pretty dreadful with its looming towering buildings. If you want something modest and low key in Hokkaido go to Asahidake Onsen or Tokachi Onsen.

Beautiful In Winter
Feb 2019 • Family
Went to Jozankei for the Yukitouro ("Snow Candle Way"). Very grateful to Miss Harumi of Ibis Style Sapporo for helping to reserve Jotetsu Kappa Line (direct bus) tickets. Board the 3 pm bus at Sapporo Station Bus Terminal and arrived at the onsen town 75 mins later (not 56 mins as claimed) despite the light traffic. Got off at Jozankei yu no machi (1 stop after Jozankei Jinja shrine stop) near Iwato Kannondo Temple and the Longevity and Health Footbath (FOC) and walked to Jozankei Jinja shrine, passing by the statue of Jozan Mizumi, the founder of the onsen town, Gensen Park with a footbath (FOC), and the half-frozen Toyohira River. We reached Jozankei Jinja shrine entrance well before the 6 pm light-up, so decided to have early dinner at the only restaurant nearby. We were pleasantly surprised to find out it was a Matsuo Jingisukan branch.
Everyone seemed to have the same plan: take the 8 pm back to the city. We left the temple grounds at 7.45 pm but a long Q had formed at the Jozankei Jinja Mae bus stop outside the shrine entrance. When Bus 7 arrived there was only standing room. We decided not to board and wait for the 9 pm bus instead. Just then an almost empty Bus 12 arrived. We were glad we took Bus 12 back because it worked out to be cheaper and faster. Bus 12 terminates at Makomanai station (the terminal station of the Nanboku subway Line), which is on the outskirt of Sapporo city, so avoided the many traffic lights in the city centre. Bus 12 is not as well known to tourists as the buses departing from Sapporo Station Bus Terminal. The bus took only 45 mins (610 yen) to get to Makomanai station while the subway took 13 mins (290 yen) to reach Nakajimakoen station (3 mins walk to our hotel.)

A place to relax
Jan 2019 • Couples
This village consists of several hotels who happen to manage natural hot spring. You can buy a ticket entry for approx 2,000 yen per adult to enjoy the onsen in one of the available hotels.
Do note that because the onsens are located in the hotel proximity, non-resident guests of the hotel can only enjoy the onsen after 12:00pm (at least that was my case)

In our experience, the outdoor onsen overlooking the nature of Jozankei village is really good! We feel so relaxed and refreshed after visiting the place.

By the way, you can go visit this village from track 12 of Bus Station which is located in Sapporo Station. It takes 60-75 mins from Sapporo station to this village.

If you have free time, and would like to try the onsen in Sapporo, worth visiting. If your hotel provides onsen, this will be just like your hotel onsen with more natural view (see photos)

Relaxation at its best!

Imagine yourself soaked inside a 42 degree hot spring while snow falls in your head not to mention the majestic view right in front of your eyes. Definitely must try when you visit Hokkaido.
