Powder skiing and sushi
Jan 2020
An amazing holiday, Silas and his team guided us round the mountains finding fresh track powder skiing throughout our trip, We stayed in both Sapporo (3 nights) and also at the Lodge at Kiroro (6 nights). Both offered opportunities to explore different culinary and cultural aspects of what Hokkaido has to offer. Highly recommended and we hope to return next year.

The ski dream
Jan 2020 • Solo
An amazing trip, the whole adventure is brilliantly organised and a true opportunity to switch off. The lodge at Kiroro is beautifully finished with every last detail thought through. It’s impeccably clean, comfortable and the slow cooked porridge (oat not frog) is delicious *other breakfast options available. The skiing in the area (or course) is second to none and Silas and Neil make sure they seek out the best spots for you everyday. The guiding is super and everyone is catered and cared for. Would definitely make a return trip and do it all again - highly recommended.

Beginner Ski Day at Sapporo
Dec 2019 • Couples
One word - awesome.

For folks with absolutely zero ski experience prior to this, it was truly a life-changing one for us.

From the pick-up at our hotel to the full day experience at a beautiful ski resort with lovely powder snow, everything was well-organized and we felt completely safe in the hands of Toru and Silas himself.

We went from tumbling in the snow pizza-ing and french frying in the morning to heading up the ski lifts in the afternoon.

The sense of achievement skiing back down the ski slope was so so satisfying.

We still tumbled, but progress we definitely made. And it was only possible thanks to the two gentlemen, who guided us down every step, ski and tumble along the way, patiently giving us tips and picking us up (literally) whenever we fell.

Salutes to Skilas Japan, for instilling passion and respect in people for skiing.

And of course, for giving us the time of our lives.

If you're up for skiing, Skilas Japan is it.

Dear Jerry and Daphne, Thank you so much for your very kind words! You guys were an absolute joy to teach - what amazing progress you made in just one day. Well done! I am so glad that you had fun. I hope that you have now been bitten by the skiing bug and that you will come back to visit the powder snow of Hokkaido soon! Many thanks to you both, enjoy the rest of your trip!

Silas and his staff were amazing for new to skiing skiers. From door pick up, to assistance in rental, to lunch, to getting back home - and playing our music in the car! Everything about this adventure for two 50+ novices was excellently provided and presented - excellent email communication, friendliness, patience. We will use Silas's business on our next Sapporo ski trip and don't need to look furthwr afield.

Japow - Skilas the king of the mountains
Feb 2019 • Family
Silas and his team of mountain guides knows the mountains like nobody. We had an amazing time with him for the last 4 days. He knows the edges, the back of the mountains and when to stay above the line. He is fun, and professional.

Awesome Jappow
Jan 2019 • Solo
Silas sorts everything for you: airport transfers, hotel, hire suggestions.

Skiing each day in the resort with the best fresh powder, pick up from hotel, guided to all the secret spots, getting fresh tracks before the boarders ruin it, steep and deep and weaving through the birch trees, followed by the best traditional onsen, then out for awesome sushi.

With Neil as his excellent sidekick an epic week of Jappow. The deepest, fluffiest and best snow I’ve ever skied. Can’t recommend highly enough. Ideal for a solo trip, great ratio of clients to guide.

Skilas does Japow proud!
Dec 2017 • Solo
Having never been to Japan before and travelling by myself I was seeking to join a group of intermediate to advanced skiers and/or boarders to visit the mecca of big powder. I was soo glad I stumbled across his tours, he was super flexible with dates and provided me with plenty of information about Japan's culture and the resorts well before I arrived.

All the difficult organising was taken care of by Skilas, didn't have to deal with any language problems, everything just worked seamlessly from day one to the last day. Both on and off the piste he catered for all the client's needs in a professional, friendly and fun manner. Most of all he guided and encouraged us on the slopes which clearly is his number one passion (especially the back country). He helped everyone relearn how to ski or board in BIG powder which is very different to the piste.

An epic trip that I'll never forget :-)

Japanese powder at its best, thanks Skilas!
Dec 2016 • Solo
It’s every snowboarder’s dream to experience Japan’s legendary powder. Yet knowing nothing about any of the resorts, accommodation, the language or the skiing culture can make it a very daunting trip to plan, especially for first-timers. That’s where Skilas comes in! You basically just need to book your flights and that’s it, Skilas takes care of the rest: hotels, airport/hotel/resort pick-ups and drop-offs, gear rental suggestions, places to eat and, of course, visits to the amazing Japanese onsens!

Before starting your trip, Skilas sends out a detailed itinerary of all the resorts you’ll visit during your stay. However, he’ll also be checking the weather conditions on a daily basis to make sure he takes you to the snowiest slopes of the day. He knows all the resorts very well and can give you tips if you prefer to do your own thing. He also knows all the great places to visit around Sapporo for some après-ski and shopping.

All in all Silas was a super friendly tour guide and really funny to be around, plus he’s the most enthusiastic skier I’ve ever met - I think he skis literally every single day of the season!

I highly recommend you book a trip with Skilas to make the most of your trip to JaPow… you won’t regret it!

Outstandingly reliable powder with an awesome host!

Have been to Japan twice now with Skilas and will go again many more times. The guy who runs this company is welcoming, friendly, inclusive professional and also funny. Not to mention he's obsessed with what he does for a living. His passion for waist deep power will definitely be contagious. Very highly recommended.
