We were here on a Saturday late afternoon. Passionately called the Sapporo shrine (札幌神社, Sapporo Jinja) earlier the Shinto shrine is located in Maruyama Park, The wide path to the main holden are lined with tall cedar trees and takes easily 10 mins . The Shrine enshrines 4 kami including the soul of the Emperor Meiji. Also enshrined here are three protective deities of Hokkaido that protect both the island and its people. We understand that during cherry blossoms the shrine will be crowded with people enjoying Hanami but it was Autumn in late-Oct now.
It is still crowded with workshippers and some of them are clad in tradition kimono. Make sure you look at the Bronze statue of Yoshitake Shima, Hokkaido founding father deeply involved in the establishment of the shrine. While there is no Cherry bloom in late-Oct, there are some ample leaves to add colour toi the greenery within the premise.
We stayed a while before existing by a different route, and three happened to be some light stalls/bazaar nearer the entrance.

The shrine is set in a large parkland area with many tall trees and wide paths. Our guide explained to us the rituals associated with Shinto praying; the ritualised hand-washing, hand clapping and bowing. The heart of the shrine is a large rectangular area surrounded by buildings, including the main prayer area. Anyone can offer a prayer provided that they follow the prescribed procedure.

The shrine is peaceful and very beautiful in winter. A leisurely stroll from Maruyama Park to the shrine is relaxing. It's also near to Maruyama Zoo.

Another popular shrine in Hokkaido. I went there in snow, which was quite interesting. The weather was cold, and there were workers everywhere to clear up snow and prepare for the New Year event. This is a quite shrine, but still has all Japanese rituals.

We took the Tozai Line to Maruoyama sta on a Monday morning. It was drizzling when we reached Maruoyama Koen. We follow some directional signs and the large Torri gate can be reached shortly, and the crowd thickens
The Hokkaidō Shrine (北海道神宮, Hokkaidō Jingū), was named the Sapporo shrine (札幌神社) until 1964. It is sited within Maruyama Park at Chūō-ku Sapporo, The Shinto Shrine enshrines 4 kam.i The shrine was built inside the park to create a spiritual ground with the surrounding forest and nature. In 1964, the Showa emperor decided that the shrine would also enshrine the soul of the Meiji Emperor...
As per most shrines during the cherry blossoms season the shrine is crowded with people enjoying Hanami while many people also visit the shrine during Japanese New Year to go Hatsumōde. Additionally in June every year, the Main festival of Hokkaido Shrine named the "Sapporo Festival" (Sapporo Matsuri), is held here.

The Shrine is as popular and packed as it’s reputation, lots of visitors and tourists. Within the Mian Hall there is an event prayer session and we can catch glimpses of which. The gravel bed and large premises with its nice surrounding buildings make for amany picture perfect shots. Have include a few to share.
Within the lush greenery precincts of the main shrine are a few smaller shrines like the Kaitaku Shrine, Kourei Shrine, Hotagi Shrine, all dedicated to those who have contributed to the development of Hokkaido. We explore a bit and tried to find the boulders in front of the Hokkaido Shrine office (“sazare-ishi”) that was formed as the result of small pebbles merging together after many years, and the bronze statue of Yoshitake Shima, Hokkaido founding father deeply involved in the establishment of the shrine.
We spent a good 1+ hour roaming about and bought some good luck charms as souvenirs. We can see also see worshipers getting a goshuin stamp to commemorate their visit to the shrine.
There is another Main entrance of the shrine but we returned via the Park area for a chill 10-minute walk with 10 deg autumn breeze.

Nice shrine with a large gift shop. The shrine is immediately adjacent to a large street, so not as intimate as others, but it is nice. Combining this shrine and the nearby Nijo Fish Market is easy.

The major Shinto Shrine in Hokkaido. It sits at the back of Maruyama Park. Visitors have to walk through the park, which takes about 15 minutes, to reach the Shrine. The Shrine occupies a large area. The architecture of the main building is old Japanese in style. There is a huge foreground and a number of prayer boards for worshippers to hang up three wishes (in writing on soft boards or paper ). On my day of visit, the place was crowded with locals queuing up to pay their respect. It is of much interest to observe the rituals practised by locals in seeking divine blessings

Enjoy the short walk at the park. Calm and relax. Prepared 5 Yen coin for praying at the shrine. 5 Yen coin is commonly gives as donation because 5 Yen in Japanese word sounds like connection or relationship, it can have establishing a good connection to the shrine. A souvenir shop nearby selling variety of amulet.

We spent about 90 min here on a cold and snowy Sunday afternoon. The park is very pretty but the shrine itself is another typical Asia shrine ... a bit generic. Perhaps I'd feel more impressed if I wasn't so cold and not in the mood for a walk while I froze. I will say the park itself is very pretty, even with the snow. But I would be very interested in returning to the park during the fall or spring period where the colors are in bloom. That would be impressive to see. For now, I feel obliged to give a TA 3 rating for the Hokkaido Shrine.
