Hangzhou is a true pearl in eastern china, and I really recommend booking a tour with China Highlights to discover all the beauty it has to offer ! Based on your interest and needs they provide the perfect itinerary for you to discover all attractions , with the best comfort and maximum flexibility to adjust at your own pace.
During the private tour we were escorted by our guide Derek, which made our time truly memorable!! He works with true passion and dedication , and made us feel welcomed and well taken care of during our whole time together. He was very knowledgeable of all the places we visited (West lake , Lingyin temple, tea village), and kept us entertained the whole time with interesting insights, legends and stories. He gave us a lot of tips, and thanks to his great English knowledge, we were able to not only learn a lot about China , but also have a fun time together 😃 He had a very good relationship with our driver and the lady from the Tea Village experience, which at the end of the trip made us feel like in a small family.
He is a truly professional, reliable, fun, friendly, knowledgeable guide, and if you have the opportunity I would 100% recommend booking a tour with him !!

We have contacted China Highlights to arrange for 2 days Hangzhou and 1 day Suzhou private tours. Our guide Suzan Yang was responsible for the Hangzhou leg which started after our arrival from Shanghai City via 1st class bullet train at about 11 am. We visited Liu He pagoda, the popular Hefang pedestrian street and Hu Qingyu Hall Chinese Traditional Herbal Medicine Museum on 1st day and toured Leifeng pagoda, cruise in West Lake and Lingyin Temple the next day. It’s a pity that due to the tight schedule, we were unable to complete all the halls from the vast temple. Thereafter we had to rush to catch our train at 4.26pm to head back to Shanghai city. I will strongly recommend to set aside 3 days to better explore the beauty of Hangzhou. You can also spend your own time to immerse in the night streets/malls of Hangzhou too. Suzan has carried out her role proficiently and ensured the whole tour was informative and enjoyable. We loved the planned Hangzhou ZhongWei Sunny Hotel which was very comfortable and beautifully decorated room and good spread of breakfast. However, the front desk staffs could have smiled more! As a suggestion to potential tourist, I’ll strongly recommend an additional day to enjoy the beauty that Hangzhou offers.

We had an amazing time in Hangzhou, thanks to our guide, Eleven. He recommended thoughtful adjustments to our itinerary, allowing us to enjoy each site fully without rushing. His friendliness, positive vibe, and great energy made him a fun and interesting companion throughout our holiday. A bonus was his incredible photography skills — he captured many candid shots and beautiful photos for us. Additionally, his wealth of knowledge and fascinating stories about the places we visited added depth to our experience. Highly recommended!

Lulu, our professional, friendly & extremely knowledgeable guide was waiting early at airport arrivals for us, & Jenna our safe & competent driver was waiting at curbside. Lulu assisted with checking us in at our hotel. Lulu is very passionate about sharing the history & culture with us of her beloved homeland of Hangzhou as she kept us engaged throughout our 2 day tour starting at the Former Hu Xueyan Residence. It is easy to get lost at this huge mansion without a guide. Lulu knew her way around the maze of rooms, beautiful gardens, pavilions, & described the intricate details of the architecture & the meaning behind each symbol. Next, Hu Qing Yu Tang Chinese Medicine Museum, Hefang Street, Boat Ride at West Lake, Dragon-Well Tea Plantation, Ancient Village Wuzhen Watertown (East & West Area). The watertown has many museums; woodcarving, coin, ancient beds, wine distillery, folk customs, too many to list, an indigo fabric workshop, & a memorial of famed novelist Mao Dun, (one of the founders of the CCP) at his former residence & hometown. The endless artifacts to see within the enclave of the watertown is rich in history. The cozy restaurants & dishes that Lulu selected each day was so delicious. Hangzhou was the host city for the 2023 Asian Games. Also, Hangzhou was 1 of 7 Capitals in China, is when we learned from Lulu about our Ancestors from Northern Song Dynasty in Kaifeng, once the Capital City in Henan Province. On our last night, Lulu went above & beyond & took us to a Chinese pharmacy to buy a needed cold/cough medicinal remedy that helped to suppress a cough that soon subsided. The last day, Lulu assisted us with our high speed rail departure. With our business class seats, she confirmed with the HSR staff that we would be escorted to the correct platform to board our train to our next destination in Shanghai. That was a tremendous relief. We can’t thank you enough Lulu, and truly appreciate all your informative, kind, caring & attentive tour guide service that exceeded our expectations! I highly recommend Chandler Wang our travel advisor, and booking with China Highlights!

Our time in Hangzhou was short but sweet thanks to our local guide, Susan. She commented that our itinerary seems quite light for our day in Hangzhou and, upon our request, quickly booked an extra activity in the afternoon - a visit to Meijiawu tea village - which ended up being the highlight of the day!
The only disappointing part of the tour was our first activity where we painted chinese umbrellas. The activity felt like it was made for kids and definitely could've been skipped for a visit to a more historic site instead, which the city does not lack!
Looking at all the places we could have visited in this city, we definitely did not spend enough time here and will definitely need to return!

I definitely recommend to book your tour with China Highlights. I had some very specific places and sights in mind but didn't know where to start. I shared my thoughts with China Highlights and Leeky, my travel advisor was really accommodating and helpful. She shared tips, gave good advice and recommendations. We first contacted through mail and after a few tweaks and changes to my itinerary, we kept in touch through Whatsapp. I could ask her any questions and she replied very promptly. I don't know if you can request an specific travel advisor, but I do highly recommend Leeky!

We have Derek as our guide. He is so passionate about his city HangZhou.
Such a perfect English speaking guide.
Derek explanation of West Lake really blows my mind.
His explanation and acknowledge on Buddhism was more than my brain can handle. The temple is just amazing , the craving on the lime stones..amazing...
Derek also informed us the steps how to pray with our 'request' which I find is very detailed.
Derek also recommended which delicious food that we got to try for our lunch
Lastly, Derek recommend which hotel and month to see HangZhou at it's best...and making me so enthusiastic to visit Hangzhou...stay a few days...

Derek was an excellent guide. Although we only had time for a day trip, he made sure our time was optimized and we hit the major highlights of seeing West Lake, Lingyin Temple and enjoying real Xihu Longjing Tea. His choice of lunch venue was also excellent.
Derek was chatty and knowledgeable throughout, and spoke excellent English for those in our group who couldn’t understand Chinese. He also wove in stories of Chinese legends together with real historical facts that have made Hangzhou into such a beautiful city.

We arrived into Hangzhou from Xian into Xiamen Airlines and were met at the airport by Susan our guide. After a slight hiccup of not being able to find each other we met the driver and were taken to our hotel. We decided to do a bit of self exploring and wandered down to the West Lake to take in the evening light show.
Over 2 days we visited the Six Harmonies Pagoda, Tea Museum, Lingyin Temple, West Lake. The area is absolutely stunning.
Susan gave us a taste of what Hangzhou had to offer. Our only disappointment was that this was the only leg of our trip that the driver didn’t engage and our guide wasn’t permitted to dine with us.

Thanks for your feedback on how your time went in Hangzhou. We're sorry that you were disappointed that the driver was not engaging and the guide was not able to dine with you. As a policy, guides do not dine with the guests, unless an invitation is extended to them by the clients, and they are not imposing on you. Complaints have been made in the past when guides dined with guests, hence we have a policy in place.

Our first time in China and visited Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou in September 2024. Hangzhou private tour was for 4 pax in English. Initially, I had some reservations booking and prepaying online but decided to choose them after reading so many positive reviews.
Bert (our coodinator at China Highlights) was amazing and quick to respond and everything was just fantastically superb and very well organised. Yuni from China Highlights was also very helpful and made the whole booking process so stress free.
Derek was our English speaking tour guide in Hangzhou. He made our tour so interesting and he was like a storyteller (which kept us mesmerised listening to him). He told us about the history, legends and folktales of the places that we went and 1 day with him is definitely not enough! He even bought souveniers for us! What a guy!! So fun so friendly so entertaining. Not even a bored moment.
Must also give credit to the driver who was so nice and non- intrusive (hardly spoke). Drove us safely and picked us up on time at the locations (albeit the traffic jam).
We would have missed out on a lot of insightful information if it wasn't for Derek. Also much time is saved because he knew exactly where to go, how to avoid the long queues, which time is better to visit and what are the specialties in certain areas. Worth the money! Otherwise, we will be spending a lot of time figuring out where to go, what to see and stuck in massive queues.
