The Xixi Wetland is located to the west of Hangzhou, away from the more famous West Lake. It has a few tributary rivers and possibly man-made canals that offer sanctuary to local flower and fowls. Now famous industrialist like Ma Yun of Alibaba fame and Jet Li of kung fu movie fame are building their own sanctuaries there. The park has many persimmon trees and it is harvesting weeks right now. It has three sections, the East section, the free section, and the Hong garden section. We went to the Hong garden section. They charge 80RMB for the entrance fee, 60RMB if you want to take the boat ride in and out (one-way ride is no longer offered), and 10RMB for a battery car ride. One of the major attractions, the Hong clan mansion and garden, was walled off to be refurbished for a movie set, which caused a lot of confusion and frustration in finding your way around. Seeing all those persimmon hanging off their trees was an unique experience.

A surprisingly wonderful and extensive wetland for an urban location - on the Western edge of Hangzhou city. As a previous reviewer said, it looks like the Everglades but with lotus instead of mangrove and no alligators! Very relaxing place to visit but be warned that it is poorly signposted and quite easy to lose one's bearings. We could only get a Chinese map. Start with an orientation trip on the electric boat, with a thankfully quiet tour guide! Then wander around the roads and paths. The birdwatching area in the middle is especially lovely and the Hong family - the great and good of the area - exhibition is worth a quick visit. You will need most of a day to do Xixi Wetland justice. There is a nice cafe restaurant just inside the West entrance to the park near where the boat docks on its return.

This is one of my favorite sightseeing site in Hangzhou. The park is very well designed and maintained. It reminds me of the Everglades of Florida, except that it felt cleaner and is free of alligators.
I learned that the park houses flora and fauna. We found a bird watching area where avids can sit inside a hut with benches and lookout holes to wait and spot the different types of birds that make this wetland their home. We also found fruit trees all over the park, including persimmon, pomelo, oranges, etc.
The best way to see the park is to walk along the well built trails as well as to take the boat rides. Entrance fee is only 80 RMB for adults. You will need to pay another 60 RMB for the boat ride that make 4 stops within the park.

Loved the park! Floated on all for rivers for about two hours. Spent the whole day there and enjoyed it greatly! The only problem was that after the lockdown there were not many places to eat there. Not many people, the scenery is amazing. Went there spontaneously and didn't regret.

We took a boat tour of the wetlands. Most here are no longer wearing masks. Air is refreshing. Many types of beautiful wild flowers.

Xixi is huge and varied in what it offers. You couldn't cover it all in a day anyway. As a 'Wetland Park' if you more want 'Park' keep to the West section (Hezhu Street - shopping and leisure areas etc) etc but if you want 'wetland' - and to better escape the crowds keep east. Marketing aside the best way to see Xixi is walking - but enter towards the west as entering in the east would require a huge walk just to get to the nice areas. The Qiu Xue An (Autumn Snow temple) area is the one area where a boat trip is rewarding as the other routes are invariably steep sided water courses offering little in the way of ecology or wildlife. The Autumn Snow temple area is a beautiful contrast to this where the wetland broadens and flattens out into more of what you would expect from a wetland and you will see much more wildlife here than elsewhere. If you get a chance to stop at the temple go up to the balcony, if permitted, for the best photo op of the entire wetland. For walking track your way through Yan Shui Yu Zhuang, (Fishing village), Deep Pool Mouth and (Shen Tan Kou) with it's massive and old camphor trees, and those areas which are all part of the oldest 'Phase 1' area - the first to be restored and therefore the place where the wetland is most wild and natural. My particular area is getting deliberately lost around the Bo an area - stunningly attractive and well of the standard tourist route – you really feel ouit ion the countryside round there, getting lost on the little paths (all the better if you have company - a very romantic area) is just idyllic and very peaceful - a total contrast to the bustle to the West end.

I spent a nice, peaceful morning with my family at the wetland park. The park is a mixture of swamps, ponds, and walkways. This place is definitely a good getaway from the busy cities but I wouldn't make a special trip just to visit the park. I recommend getting a ticket to enter into the park as there are some interesting buildings inside the part worth seeing. You can either walk around or take boats around the park. There are two boating options. One is a hop on and off motor boat system where there are 4 locations where the boat will drop and pick up tourists. This method is 60RMB and allows you to visit most of the park. Or you can take a private boat and it charges by the hour. I recommend taking the first option as it allows you to see more of the park.
If you are staying at a hotel nearby, you can ask if the hotel offers special packages or discount coupons to the park. We stayed at the Sheraton and the hotel can provide a letter to present to the park and you can get 25rmb off.
A last note, the park doesn't accept credit cards so prepare some cash.

Park was next to the Grand Sheraton and I had about 2 hours before leaving. Did the loop around the park (admittance area charged RMB80) had great variety of flowers (tulips at time of my visit) and greenery. There’s also a huge pond area with submerged walkway (they called it the underwater gallery) so you can see aquatic life along the way. Kids would really enjoy this I think.

The Xixi Wetlands resort in Hangzhou is a bit away from the city (naturally (pun intended!) as these are wetlands) but not terribly out of the way either. It's basically a vast, sprawling nature reserve with well defined paths (causeway or boardwalks) throughout reserve and beautiful fairy tale like scenery most of the time. Add to these scores of those typically Chinese lovely humped (arched) bridges and pagodas and pavilions to add to the exotic feel.
It's a wonderful day out if you love nature. You can lost yourself photographing the fairy tale like scenery, and the exotic ancient buildings. And also the park dates way, way back to the dynasties, it was recently re-furbished and thrown open to the public only in 2005.
When I visited, May 2017, the place was a tad crowded due to the local school holidays and a forthcoming local festival. I had Chinese friends with me, so language was no problem.
Although mostly spectacular greenery and water, with ancient pagodas (or replicas thereof) thrown in and humped (arched) bridges, there are a couple of built up areas housing cafes, coffee shops, restaurants etc. Many of the restaurants on site were empty, despite the crowds, and there is one Starbucks outlet in there as well.
I particularly enjoyed an indoor exhibition of dragon boats- the tradition of dragon boat racing has a major presence here- may have even started here.
For all the water around, wildlife was lax- I saw just one heron and one mamma duck with her two chicks, that too mostly hidden among lotus leaves in a lovely lotus pond.
You can enter from any one of several entrances, quite close to one of which is a bit of a marshland with tall grasses on both sides with a boardwalk running right through it.
A good place to spend several hours if you love nature, greenery and checking out exotic Chinese traditional architecture! At one spot inside the reserve, you can also take a long boat ride (large electric boat) through the waters of the reserve. The reserve itself consists of lakes and rivers criss-crossing the lakes.

We took an electric boat to cruise thru the park. It takes about an hour and the cost is 80 RMB. Frankly there is not much to see. We got off the boat at Shen Tan Kou Cun and walked thru the shopping street. There is a little boat parked in the water, it is where a famous China movie "Fei Cheng Wu Yao" was shot.

Hello, bikes are a popular way to explore the XiXi wetlands...if you have your own bike thats easy.
If you search "Hangzhou Public Bicycle hire" - they advise that public bike hire is available at the North Gate of the XiXi wetands entry. It looks quite inexpensive.
Have fun...I think I enjoyed XiXi wetlands more than the West Lake.

Hi, would you recommend me to spend a night in one of the near by hotels. how much time did you spend in the wetland park? Thank you.

Depends how long you spending in Hangzhou. Half a day to one day is more than enough time around this area. There are a lot of nice hotels here like Sheraton and food to eat. However It's jam to go town so one can Stay around walking distance of xihu and make this a day trip

There are multiple public buses to Xixi wetland park, depending on where you are traveling from in Hangzhou.
If you can read Chinese, check the local web 'mapbar' or 'baidu map' for bus info (no VPN required). Otherwise you can always use 'google map' with a VPN connection.
